Bugs. Gross!

I live in Louisiana where the Mosquito is our state bird. So, how does my family keep the bugs away?

Redbugs, Chiggers - My grandmother used to power my ankles with a bit of sulfur. I can still find it at the smaller pharmacies and it comes in a powdered form. It keeps redbugs from crawling up the legs. So, what do you do if your kids roll around in the grass? Well, we've had to resort the the old liquid Lysol bath every now and again. Just place a couple of drops in a tub of water and let the kids soak for a few minutes. DO NOT let this water get in their eyes or let them drink it. It will get rid of the redbugs that have buried themselves under the skin. You can rinse your child in a second bath with normal soap. Then treat each bite with a little Dr. Tichenor's.

Mosquitoes - We try to stay indoors when dusk comes around. Also, getting rid of any standing water near your home will help keep the mosquitoes from laying eggs. Cintronella candles only help so much.

Flies - So how do the old timers keep flies out of their homes? Hang a ziploc bag full of water from the back porch. I swear it scares the flies away.
