Shes hurting my nipples again @ 16 months.!!!!

Well we've been nursing for 16mths.!!! Yay! I plan to nurse to at least 2 yrs. or whenever she weans herself off. Well my problem is that lately all she wants to do is nurse every chance she gets. She cant see me sitting down because she will go & attack me. LOL Sometimes she nurses nice and calmly other times she will nurse on me like their is no tomorrow and suck on me hard!! She doesn't necessarily bite my nipple all the time as much as she sucks on me hard. It hurts bad that sometimes it frustrates me and I just want to get her off and stop nursing all together! I really don't want to do that. I LOVE the time we spend when I nurse her. I want it to be a moment that we can both relax and enjoy each other. Sometimes I feel like im nursing a newborn again b/c all she wants to do is nurse all day! Is it another growth spurt? When she gets like that she will barely eat any food and just nurse all day. Has anybody gone thru that? All the info I find is for the lil babies nothing about older babies. Any ideas or advice would be greatly appreciated! =)

Jun. 11, 2008 at 10:13 AM I wish I could help you. I don't really know but you could probably call your ped and ask the nurse. Lukas never had a proper suck and wouldn't do it. I thought he was eating when he wasn't and he got jaundice so then I had to give him a bottle. It went all down hill from there. I visited lacation specialists and it still just didn't work. I pumped for a bit till it got too tiring. You could probably call a lactation consultant if you have them in your area?

It's a phase, but you could try teaching her to be more gentle, sometime they can learn at that age. Use your body language to express yourself when you need to expain that it hurts. (exaggerate your body language, maybe that will help)

I pop my toddler off when she's not gentle and make her try again until she gets it right.
