we played outside every day. We rode our bikes for miles and miles. We walked through creeks up to our waists and looked for turtles and tadpoles. We left our bikes in our front yards and NO ONE touched them. We didn't have cable, but even when we got it, it didn't keep us in. My mom made us kool-aid and orange juice popcicles in ice cube trays and the Schwans man brought the best ice cream bars and push-ups. Everybody's dog ran free and played right along beside us. every picture shows a dog! (We lived outside the city limits) Today is another story. I am terrified to let my son in the front yard by himself, much less riding his bike on the street. Do the cars go faster now? Are people more evil and vile? According to the news and Nancy Grace, the world is teeming with pedophiles and murderers just waiting for parents to turn their backs. Am I protective or paranoid? Smart or Suspicious? Were those the days?

I can totally relate! Things seem so incredibly different nowadays. I worry about EVERYTHING! I'm always trying to figure what's safe or not, what my kids should eat, what they should wear, and how to raise them to be conscious and responsible but still willing to take smart risks and not be afraid of everything! It's exhausting!
I've recently come across a website called paranoidparentsshop.com. I think it's fantastic! They carry things like lotion that's safe to put on your kids, and toys that they have to use their brains to play with. It's so nice to come across a company you feel you can trust!

Definitely not over protective! When I was a kid, I also ran loose, but I lived in a small town. I would walk out the door in the morning, and go wandering through the woods behind our house for hours. There was a local swimming lake 4 miles from my house. I would ride my bike, or walk to it several times a week. My cousin lived in a big city, but we also just went where we wanted to. The local zoo was miles away, but we just set out and walked to it.
Now, even in small towns, any child on the street, who isn't with other people, can be grabbed, for a variety of reasons. Or hit by a car by speeders. Both happen quite often. It makes me sick to see small children outside alone, with no parent visible. Never think you are over protective. Even when my daughter was a teenager, my main requirement for her to go anywhere, was to make sure she wasn't ever alone.
