My DD has been struggling with napping...she only slept for about 25 minutes today in her stroller and refused to sleep otherwise today. normally she will sleep about 10-11 hrs at night with minimal interruptions and nap twice a day (one 1 hr nap and one 45 minute nap with an occasional 30 minute nap right before dinner). this is unusual for her.

she has been babbling up a storm....has anyone else experienced sleeping strikes right before a toddler started really talking. our dd understands a ton of words but only says about 5-10 words right now. she does however babble up a storm and seems to know what she is saying each time because she will repeat exactly what she just said if we ask her what she said.

she is 16 months....

Blake...
Jun. 11, 2008 at 9:12 PM I have the child of little sleep. He has ever only required 8 hours of sleep. That started as an infant. However as an infant he would take about an 1- 1&1/2 hour nap. That stopped somewhere around 18 months old. No more naps and still 8 hours of sleep. I questioned his pediatrician several times about this, thinking he was not getting enough sleep and basically he said if Blake is a hppy baby (and he was extremely happy 99% of the time) and he isn't acting like he needs more rest (he wasn't, he was very active and energetic) then he is getting the amount of sleep that HE needs. They say babies need a certain amount of sleep but it can vary from child to child. I don't know what to tell you exactly except I do know that when Blake was in the 2 year old room at pre-school there were several children who had stopped taking naps at that point already and so those children were taken outside to play or to another room while the children who still napped took their naps. I guess it can happen and be considered normal anytime now??
