Even though my book, Hostage to Her Heart,  has been available since the end of April, it's been a slow process to promote it widely due to it being self-published and being POD (Published on Demand). I'm a newbie in this and a lot of costs upfront are being absorbed by me and not the publisher. I must find a lot of ingenious ways to spread the word about this fabulous story.  One way is through this website, of course.

On the fans page (www.freewebs.com/ladyauthor2b), there is a forum for readers to post their honest reviews. Overall, this will help the curious get an idea if the story is worth the publisher's price ($16.99 plus shipping through Authorhouse), something that was beyond my control. Although available through Amazon too, the cost is way higher- also beyond my control.

Now, granted, about the first twenty copies of my book were bought up by me to distribute for reviews, contests, and to good friends who have encouraged my process all along, here in Texas, Washington State,  Arizona, Colorado, and Michigan. For those that come back to post their reviews are not influenced by me in any way. They are completely free to write whatever they wish and so far, I've had one friend post. Her opinion is previously based by all the critiques she gave while I was writing the book. Just today, I sent her via slow mail an official signed copy for her hot little hands. I know she'll be thrilled to recieve it. (Thanks Aimee for the kind review. I know you are a fan of this story as I am- so I appreciate the compliments. )

They also say that if something is copycat'ed that it's a sincere form of flattery. On my dedication page, I give kuddos to an Urbis website buddy for being honest with her critiques there. I lost touch with Sheri for about the first half of this year and recently discovered why. We finally talked on the phone just last week. Now, for just a tad bit of personal history: She's married, a career woman in her early forties, with one twenty-something daughter. In late 2007, Sheri had a bout with pneumonia and really thought that the nausea, etc, was due to that.  In early 2008, she went in for a regular check up and lo and behold she found out that she was expecting! Surprise!  A healthy baby boy arrived in March.

When she told me what happened to her, my jaw dropped! Good news is that her baby boy is wonderful and she's doing terrific with all the major adjustments in her life to accomodate her new son. I asked, "Sheri- what did you name him?" And she giggled on the phone and said "Daniel"

Ok I fell out of my chair at that point, gasping on the phone, "OMG! OMG! Really?? "

Now-If you read the book, Daniel Cross is the main wonderful hero in the story. Believe me, he's the one guy that affects everyone's heart by a long mile.

Sooo, by naming her son Daniel, I felt flattered.  I didn't ask her why she chose that name, but maybe my character lingered in her mind/heart to make an impact in that decision making.

Then of course, I had to ask "Say Sheri- by no means, since you helped with the book, did it make you pregnant, did it??" And she laughed. (See my heroine is a young mom- quite by divine intervention!)  This is kind of like the old wives tale that if you drink water after someone who is pregnant, than surely you will be too.

By the way, Aimee had a baby boy as well -at the end of last year.  Landon is his name. Cute, huh?  But if any new reader finds themselves expecting- by no means is it my books fault!! I swear! LOL..

P.S. Coming soon:  In late June to The Corner Galley in Brenham Texas:  Five autographed copies! Go by and check out their store on East Alamo if you live in the area.

Please contact me if you are interested in showcasing my book in your bookstore or would like to purchase an autograph copy.

Jun. 19, 2008 at 12:50 AM I would love to read your book sometime; I enjoy being able to support authors "close to home," if u know what I mean;  my long time friend has had many books published, and I went to a book sharing/reading thing in Miles City when I lived there, since the featured author was a Wyoming native(not far from Billings MT where I live).  It is a personally signed copy, and I consider it special! Anyway...I'm to old to get pregnant, so I don't think theres a chance of that happening; been celebate for 15 years, too! lol!

Jun. 19, 2008 at 6:03 PM That's so funny, even the celebate part! I'm not quite there, Even if my hubby's 47, he thinks he's 18 sometimes. In my mind, when I wind down for the evening, I wish he'd pretend i"m over 70. LOL.. but they say all that "whoopla" in the bedroom makes you stay young. Must have been a guy saying that. :)

LOL!! I'd love to read your book and then find out I'd be expecting, but, unfortunately I can only get preggers by "immaculate" conception. They'd have to take my hubby's sperm and fertilize my eggs, and after having 3 kids already, it would be a tad bit expensive and I'm happy with the 3 I have, LOL!!

But good luck with selling your book!
