The Ramblings of a Mom on the Edge...

ABCDEFGHIJKLMNOPQRSTUVWXYZ

Okay Ladies, are you up for the challenge? I'll be doing this on last names... unless for some reason I can't find a last name to fulfill a letter! :-)

Copy and paste this to a journal entry label ALPHABET CHALLENGE 2008, then STRIKETHROUGH the letter of the Author's last name (some use first or last names) , after you finished a book.    I can't figure out how to strike through the letter so I will be underling & bolding as I go along!! **changed it... if i read it, it is in red**

Greetings from E Street: The Story of Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band (Hardcover)  by Robert Santelli
If you're a Springsteen fan you will enjoy this book...

A walk down memory lane to the early days of Jersey Shore bands & the journey Springsteen & his fellow E-Streeters made to the top. And lots of reproduced memorabilia stashed away in sleeves & pockets, so it's like opening little presents along the
way.

I Heart Bruce even more! The man is a Rock God.

The Heroin Diaries: A Year in the Life of a Shattered Rock Star by Nikki Sixx
Yes, it was another "S" & I can't mark off anything on my ABC's above, but it was fantastic. Just... WOW. WOW. Just wow.

This is literally excerpts from Nikki Sixx's (bassist, lyricist, leader of Motley Crue) diary from 12/23/1986 through 12/25/1987 - during this time, the Crue was on the rise, they were touring for Girls Girls Girls, and Nikki was an alcholic, a coke-head & a heroin junkie. He literally died, AND CAME BACK, TWICE in this year.

Disturbing, insane & riveting... this is a gruesome & honest look at what is probably a year in the life of most junkies.

I am a music
fan. I am a Crue fan. And I am now a Nikki Six fan... the man is definitely effed in the head, but he is talented, creative, intelligent and very very brave.

Just finished reading the following two books by James Patterson...
7th Heaven (Women's Murder Club)
and
Double Cross (Alex Cross)
I took a brief break from reading A NEW EARTH (that book is a real thinker & I actually want to go back & re-read parts of it) to read a couple of quickies this weekend.  I enjoyed both Patterson books... I like his style of writing, fast paced with short chapters that keep you moving through the books.  Double Cross was great, never knew where it was going and the bam bam bam pace of his writing... loved it.  7th Heaven was also really good, although the ending was a little 'light' for lack of a better word. Anyway, back to Eckhart Tolle! :-)

Again, I took a break from A New Earth... seriously, for whatever reason I just can't get my head into that book right now. Probably bc there is just too much of my life on my mind! SO... I've read a few others.....

The Memory of Water by Karen White
This book was wonderful... a story of two sisters & the darkness that separates them, a story of how history repeats itself, for better or for worse. This book is rich & absorbing, you totally get swept away. Chapters are written from different perspectives of each character & you are equally engaged by each of them.  If you like Jodi Picoult, you will enjoy Karen White too!

I Feel Bad About My Neck: And Other Thoughts On Being a Woman (Vintage) by Nora Ephron
Blah... just blah... I enjoy Ephron's movies but this book wasn't as great as I was hoping for. Perhaps because it was about being a woman of a certain age & I just haven't reached that age yet... haven't had those life experiences (physically & otherwise). There were some laughs. And I have to say, we women sure get the short end of the stick! Lots to look forward to in becoming a woman of a certain age! HA!

Wonderful Tonight: George Harrison, Eric Clapton, and Me by Pattie Boyd and Penny Junor
She's not a great writer or story-teller, but she has some wicked cool stories to tell. The muse of both George Harrison and Eric Clapton (he wrote Layla, Wonderful Tonight, and Old Love for her!), she was in the middle of the 60's rock, fashion & drug revolution. Sometimes a good read, sometimes just a series of name-dropping sentences... if you enjoy the music of The Beatles & Clapton, you'll enjoy this perspective of their life, times & inspirations. It is cool to read who inspired songs like "Dear Prudence." Oh.... to be the muse of a rock god... I wonder if Bruce needs one for his next album!?

Currently reading....
A New Earth: Awakening to Your Life's Purpose (Oprah's Book Club, Selection 61) by Eckhart Tolle

And yes, I am even participating in Oprah's online web event with this book which starts on Monday March 3rd.
