Kind of a strange title isn't it? For the last few weeks, I have made a commitment to read my Bible from cover to cover. As a baby Christian I have not done this yet. Yes, I have skimmed here and there with the Bible, but never cover to cover. What a joyful experience it has been.

I just started in the book of Joshua. Israel is preparing to enter the Promised Land that God has given to them. If you know your history, Israel was taken out of salvery from Egypt by the Mighty Hands of God. However, Israel (who is God's chosen people) were very stiff -necked people. They were impatient and took matters into there own hands and began worshipping idols. So, they wandered for 40 years in the desert. God made it clear that no one, who had been delievered out of Egypt, would cross into the Promised Land.

While reading from Genesis into Joshua, I sometimes scratch my head and wonder how in the world could these people not follow God's commandments and trust in The One who delivered them out of slavery? All the miraculous signs and wonders He did in front of Israel, one of these wonders being the Red Sea. After several plaques had befallen on Egypt, Pharoah allowed God's people to leave. After they left, God caused Pharoah's heart to harden once again and Egypt went after them. Here we are at the Red Sea. God commanded Moses to hold up his staff in front of the Red Sea and as he did, God parted the sea. He parted the sea so that Israel could cross over and away from the fast approaching army of Egypt.

Can you imagine crossing an ocean on dry land? As you cross you can look to your left and to your right and see the waters around you. How do you think you would feel seeing this? Me, I would probably stand in awe and somewhat frightened. I would probably have to have someone knock me along side my head to get me moving.

As soon as the last of God's people crossed over, the sea was once again returned to normal, taking with them the army of Egypt.  That had to be extremely scary as well, having these walls of water come down, crashing on top of you, submerging you into the sea.

So again I say, how could they be so hard headed after seeing all that God did for them? This is just one of many wonders God did for Israel. I can only read about these wonders and believe that He is the One. He gave me the Faith to Believe. However, taking my life and circumstances, I can see how easily I can stumble. Thank God for His mercy and grace.

Jun. 18, 2008 at 2:23 PM No, I am stating how hard headed Israel was, even after all these wonders. Sometimes you just want to strangle them. However, I can see how easily I stumble and because of this, I am so thankful for God's grace and mercy.
