Tuesday, Mary and I headed for the beach on Tybee Island. You can read about that on my Blog and see some pictures, too! We're both suffering from sun burn, walking around the house grunting and groaning every time the sting makes us inhale sharply, swearing we will find the right sunblock next time.
Along with my sunburn, I'm burnin' up over the neighbors upstairs. As I have said before, and relayed to the apartment manager yesterday, they are very nice people. They just don't have a clue as to how much noise goes on above our ceiling. The woman is very hard to catch at home. I don't know her hours of work, but apparently she has neices and a nephew here (god, I hope not for the whole summer) watching (sort of) the little kids in the house. When they are all here there is a total of seven kids up there practicing their circus acts or football plays, I haven't decided which. It sounds like a lot of falling off the trapeze wire or perfecting a particular tackle pattern, over and over and over again.
I've gone upstairs 3 times to knock on the door. Two times it was after 11 p.m. and I had just had enough. They wouldn't open the door, but a kid yells, "Who is it?" after much scuffling around inside and contemplating what to do, I suppose. I informed them I was their neighbor downstairs. "You don't have to open the door, but can you please listen?" I asked through the door at the top of my voice, most likely, now, disturbing the other people who live upstairs, but don't hear the pandemonium I hear. I asked them to please turn down the music and to stop hoppin' around. They yelled back,
"Yes, Ma'am!"
It settled down for the most part and all was quiet, sort of, after midnight and I could go to sleep without the fear of the ceiling falling in on me.
The next night we had the same thing.
Last night it went on even later. I was already in a night gown, the loosest, lightest thing I could find to wear that wouldn't rub my sunburn unmercifully all night long, and I wasn't about to put on the tight, scratchy clothes again so I could trot upstairs to yell at the kids again, so I put in my earplugs and sat down with my book, hoping I wouldn't hear anything but my own breathing and my heart beat, slowly getting to a more calm beat in my chest.
Didn't work.
I could still hear them.
I spoke to the manager here and today I will add to my list of aggrivations. Originally, I told her that I didn't want her to speak to them right away, that I would try and catch up to the adult in the house and talk to her about the noise. I don't know about that now. The manager told me that after so many complaints they could be evicted from the apartment, but that's not what I want. So much of it is my inability to be an apartment dweller, I'm sure. Although, I've never lived below a bowling alley, I'm sure there are people who are accustom to it and don't give it a second thought.
So, we're moving.
We found a really nice townhome where the only feet stomping above our heads will be those of our darling daughter. And I can yell at her in person.
We'll have to 'pay a penalty' for breaking the lease here, but for my sanity, or what's left of it, and the lives of the neighbors relatives, it will be worth it. We'll be pinching pennies like never before, well, in a while, and eating toast and ramen noodles a lot, but there's nothing like a ramen diet to drop the pounds!
Send me coupons.

A four bedroom townhome with a two car garage. All for five bucks more a month than we pay here. Two master suites, one upstairs and one down. The downstairs one will be the scrapbook/craft room.Yay!
The other two bedrooms are good size, so Mary will have a room for her bed, etc., and a room for her Barbie empire.

Ahhh...the only kid that will be upstairs!

The neighborhood is a gated community with townhomes and single family homes. It's quite adorable!
I can't wait to live there. (Must go box hunting again. sigh.)
OH it's beautiful! I can't wait to see pics of when you get it decorated!!!
Is it very far from where you are now? Wondering if Mary will have to switch schools! I would talk to the management and see if you can't get them to forgo the penalty for what you have had to deal with... I have been an apartment dweller upstairs and downstairs and ... welll....what you have described would never be tolerated! I think it's worth a shot talking to the management!
Will you be renting or buying the townhome?
HUGS and Love Debs who thinks if gas prices were better we'd drive down to help :::sigh:::
Yeah, I don't think they're going to let me off without the penalty. There are literally dozens and dozens of apartments empty. They're not going to let me go without getting some extra $$$$. They will work out payment arrangements, though. It's only one months rent, so I'll swallow it to get out of it. (big gulp).
Decorate? I should decorate? lol I'll try!
And we'll be renting. No more buying for us. We have a house on the market in Florida (want it? PLEASE????) The condo is owned by 'an investor' so hopefully he'll be glad to have long term tenants. We got approved without a blink so it looks good!
