If we are so in love with socialism and the democrats policy, this ruling in Canada will be predictive of rulings to come in America - heaven help us all!

12-Year-Old Grounded for Too Much Internet Use Gets Punishment Overturned in Court

Thursday, June 19, 2008

A Canadian court has overturned a father's punishment for his daughter after she refused to stay off the Internet, his attorney said Wednesday.

The girl, 12, took her father to Quebec Superior Court after he refused to allow her to go on a school trip for chatting on Web sites and then posting "inappropriate" pictures of herself online using a friend's computer, AFP reported.

The punishment was for the girl's "own protection," according to the father's attorney, Kim Beaudoin, who is appealing the ruling.

"She's a child," Beaudoin told AFP. "At her age, children test their limits and it's up to their parent to set boundaries. I started an appeal of the decision today to reestablish parental
authority, and to ensure that this case doesn't set a precedent."

Otherwise, she continued, "Parents are going to be walking on egg shells from now on."

According to court documents, the girl's Internet usage was the latest in a rash of disciplinary problems. But Justice Suzanne Tessier, who was presiding over the case, found the punishment too severe.

Beaudoin noted the girl used a court-appointed lawyer in her parents' 10-year custody dispute to launch her landmark case against dear old dad.

Justice Suzanne Tessier must not have children! My child would have done child labor if she ever posted photos and wasn't abiding by my rules.

Although I'm not quite sure what this has to do with democrats and socialism, I find this completely stupid.  We really need to be able to parent our kids and it seems that every day there's something else we're not allowed to do.  All the while people are wondering why the world is going to shit.

I wanted to explain further, my thoughts on the article about parenting.  A major difference between the average conservative and average liberal is the amount of government involvement desired in our lives.  I understand that this is a generalization but it is really pretty true.  There are many other differences but this is the one that pertains to the article.  The conservative mindset says that government should be there to provide defense and basic structure to our country but that is it.  This is very close to the original intent of the framers of the constitution.  The liberal mindset says that people need and want a lot of government intervention in their lives - lots and lots of social programs.  Your mindset frames your world view.  Now, judges have a world view, just as you and I.  They see their decisions thru their world view.  Consequently, when we have liberal judges, we have liberal decisions.  The view that we can't really take care of ourselves, we need them to do it.

This election is critical.  When we have a conservative President, he appoints like minded judges that tend to give rulings that more closely follow the constitution.  When we have a liberal President, we have judicial appointments that are liberal.  Liberal judges tend to legislate from the bench - they tend to make social decisions and change laws with their decisions and these decisions tend to be more intrusive.

Obviously, I am conservative.  I challenge you to really look at your candidates views and policies and vote based upon what you really want to see this country look like.

anyone know what the girl's mom had to say about it? because the parents are in the process of a highly contentious divorce, where the child was appointed an attorney to represent her best interest. (which happens all the time when parents put their anger for each other above the well being of their own children.) anyway, by bringing the courts into your home like that, you basically temporarily hand over your parental rights, because the two parents aren't able to, for the time being anyway, effectively co-parent. judges presiding over domestic relations cases like that don't make it a habit to side with the kid, against BOTH parents. and believe me, they don't enjoy "taking over"! i'll bet 5 dollars the mom was in support of the kid going on the field trip. maybe she thought there was a more effective way of punishing the girl without having to take away something she felt was far too beneficial. or, maybe she just wanted to embarrass her husband.

The problem, though, is that this case, regardless of their parenting issues, becomes precident and other cases are now judged against it.  You are very right - opening the door to the government is like opening a can of worms!

Do you truely think that this president has stayed out of our lives?  Then you haven't been paying attention.  The conservative candidate is more of the same.  At least the liberals try to help people when they get into their lives, unlike what's happening now.

it hasn't become a precedent case yet. besides, this is in canada anyway. if this did happen here, and it did have precedence, it could still be challenged. i just don't think this is anything to get too worked up about.

"When we have a conservative President, he appoints like minded judges that tend to give rulings that more closely follow the constitution." do you really believe that? how do you explain g-dub's wholly unconstitutional war?

momot...
Actually - the judicial appointments by President Bush is one of the few highlights of his disappointing administration.  I don't see the connection between judicial appointments and the war.  That is sort of a leap.  And I find it horribly disrespectful of the office of the President to call him 'g-dub'.  I am not defending anything he did.  I am asking people to be really aware of how much government intervention you honestly want in your life.  President Bush is a big government conservative.  I have huge problems with that.  But, if you think that Obama will 'change' that - you are wrong.  Unfortunately, I am not sure McCain will be any better.

rightly said, sister! oh, and i know better than to think obama would change anything... and i was only bringing up the war as a highly unconstitutional act by a conservative. and what do you think about "no child left behind" for smaller gov't. i'd be for it, if it weren't so counter-productive. but i think that's a decent example of a conservative offering bigger gov.
