I live in Halifax, NS in Canada and I often read the paper online. After reading today's paper it is no wonder there are vigilantes running around. The first story was about a man who had a lengthy record and history of molesting child with many prior convictions yet violating another child- this time an 8 year old boy ( the one before that was a girl so no child is safe). How this guy got out in the first place after being convicted is beyond me but for this most recent offence he got 25 months- omg that is absolutely disgusting, infuriating, pathetic- the works. But it gets worse. As if I wasn't outraged enough- I read the rest of the paper to see an article about a man who went on a robbing spree to feed his crack habit- It lasted 10 days and he got a total of $480. Guess how much time he got in prison- 35 months. Yes you heard me right- someone who stole money got more time than someone who molested a child and many before that one. I know this is nothing new but it sickens me that this is still happening. I wish I would re-write the laws and make hurting a child a big deal- because obviously there is a major message here- money is more important than lives and especially children. If there were more of a deterrent maybe these sickos would think twice- actually if the laws were tougher that psycho would still be in jail where he belongs and god knows how many children could have been spared the terrible experiences they had to endure. As a mother this just infuriates me. When are these laws going to reflect the best interests of the victim and not the assailant? God bless the poor children who are violated and don't see the justice they deserve because the laws that are supposed to protect them actually end up protecting the sick pervert in the equation. Something has to be done! I just pray someday things change and these awful poor excuses for human beings finally get what is coming to them. Just wanted to share this- this is my vent for today-lol. Thanks for listening- Kim
