Calvin has been making up his own words lately... for example, yesterday he said "DADA ICK BAH." I asked my hubby (he's in Iraq) if it was Arabic. He said it was close, but no. Ha ha
Anyway, today I got my weekly update from americanbaby.com, and it said my baby's next speech milestones are "babbling (6 mo)" and "uses protowords (10 mo)". I was like, "WTF are protowords?" So I kept reading... and it turns out it's VERY interesting!
It says... By the time babies are around 10 months old, they devise a system for getting their demands met. Some babies will point, grunt, or stare, but some will use "protowords", which are invented words with a consistent meaning. It's basically baby language! Calvin's just a couple months ahead of the game, I guess.
Seriously, this information couldn't have come at a better time. Lately whenever Calvin drops a toy, if I take something away from him, wants to pet the dog, or wants whatever I'm holding, etc... he screams "IGGY". Today I was typing an e-mail to my hubby & Cal was sitting on my lap... he wanted to play with (or beat furiously on) the keyboard SO BAD & was YELLING "IGGGYYYY!!" at the top of his lungs and flailing his arms around! So now I know! "IGGY" means "GIMME!!!"
He also says "EDDY" and "AYY" (We tease him for sounding like The Fonz or Joey from Friends.... but I'm not sure what those mean yet. I guess I'll have to pay closer attention.
