"Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful, committed citizens can change the world; indeed, it's the only thing that ever has." - Margaret Mead

Why, YES;  it is the thinking of the Meads and the Kennedys and the Washingtons/ Adams that HAS changed things.  So, for those who sit back and become depressed or frustrated over the, "what can I do;  I'm only one person" way of thinking, THINK ABOUT IT IN ANOTHER (POSITIVE) WAY!  This world and our society (societies) are not stagnant-  life is always changing.  It is up to YOU to effect the change YOU want, right? Set-up events in your backyard-  we used to call the "happenings".. make your OWN happening-  online or in person-  make it happen!

I committed myself, long ago, and before many of you were even thoughts in your parents' minds.. to change what I could and to push forward harder when it looked like I wouldn't be able to do what I felt would make this world or this country or state, city, even my own household a better place--  some think I go on too much or for too long-  but change takes TIME.  And, from where I sit recently, the "change" that some think they are in for seems to be pie-in-the-sky... or, to quote President Bill Clinton, a "fairy tale",

So, I would say-  get out there!  Blog;  campaign for whomever and whatever it is you think will make this country better-  whomever it is YOU agree with.  And, stifle yourself from the name-calling and nastiness..  THIS is not how we change things.  Beware of wolves in sheeps' clothing, too.

BUT, do something!  "Tune-in and drop-out" may have been the way some thought they could change things-- but, it was not those people who actually got things DONE.  Drop in!  Tune-IN.. do YOUR part.. otherwise, what do you have to complain about other than YOUR own lack of motivation or action?  Yeah, the sixties and the seventies were TUMULTUOUS, but, yes;  MUCH changed in these eras...

Hey, don't forget;  "GET UP, STAND UP, STAND UP FOR YOUR RIGHTS-- DON'T GIVE UP THE FIGHT!"..   No, I am not trying to make history, per-se;  I am trying to effect CHANGE...

And, of course, VOTE!!  However you see it and for whomever;  please figure it out and VOTE....

Jun. 23, 2008 at 2:15 AM awesome, anne!  Throw your pebble in that pond, add your ripple to the others.  You know what?  The effort I put out isn't so much tied to results, either.  I guess having kids will do that to some of us.  I do it for myself.  So I can be the person I want to be, and be comfortable in my own self regard.

Jun. 23, 2008 at 1:54 PM Exactly, Pam!  No matter where we start-- as long as we do not give up before the fight is over, we WIN.  AND, in our cases, as moms, our daughters (and our sons) also win...  Thanks for the comment.. I expected many negative ones, though I didn;t think there was anything to be negative about.  Glad it didn't happen!

Jun. 25, 2008 at 10:50 PM I couldn't agree with you more, dear friend...it's those who don't bother to go out if it's Cold or raining on Election day...thinking their vote won't matter....It WILL have an effect !!  And if the person you wanted to win didn't ...it will STILL have an effect down the road on the NEXT election....I hear more and more saying..oh, I'm just NOT going to vote...or "there isn't anyone running "worth" my vote"....Your vote isn't "worth" anything if you choose NOT to use it!! Zip, Zippata...You have to VOTE to make your voice heard....I loved the "lyrics" too....lol....though alot of the moms may not remember that tune...but it was a "classic"!!  Speak your mind, woman!!  Damn, it wasn't till, what , 1926 till we were ALLOWED to vote...and now so many women just take it for granted...sadly!!

Jun. 26, 2008 at 2:13 PM Exactly, beanne!  Even if people write-in their choice, or refuse to vote for pres/vp but DO vote on issues and other offices, they do need to vote.  I've just seen too many posts and comments from people who have said they won't bother-- and ths BOTHERS ME.  Thanks for you ever so eloquent comment-  always thoughful/insightful..
