I am chuckling as I write this, because a scene from earlier today keeps replaying itself in my head.

I was at a really great party today (thanks again, Lisa!) with my hubby and toddler. There were clowns there, and face-painting, and I thought Alyssa would like to have her face painted. Well, Alyssa freaked a little when we sat down next to the clown, so to show her it was fun, I had my face painted like her favorite animal - a pink cat. Yeah, Alyssa thought it was great that MOMMY was a cat, but she did NOT in any way, shape or form want that clown touching her with even a dot of paint!

So there I was, a shy, 35-year-old pink cat at a party where I didn't really know a whole lot of the guests well, but hey! 'Ya gotta come out of your shell sometime, right? And what better icebreaker than "Don't you just hate hairballs?"

Anyway, I was playing with Alyssa and her newest little friend at one of the games, while my hubby played Wii with HIS newest little friend. LOL! I noticed one of the dads was wearing a balloon hat from one of the clowns, so I smiled knowingly, tapped him on the shoulder and said, "Thank you so much for wearing that hat!"

He looked totally confused to be addressed by a 5'7" talking cat. Laughing, I tried to explain that we were both sort of in the same awkward boat, so I pointed to my face and said "From the lady with the cat face!"

Now, I should also mention that there was music, and it was pretty loud, and my hearing, well... it isn't all that great. So it is quite possible that what I HEARD and what this guy SAID were completely different things. But what I HEARD before he made his hasty exit was
"Thanks, but I have a wife!"

Ummmm...yeah! At the time, I really didn't think much of it, because I'm a little slow on the uptake, and like I said, my hearing can be pretty crumby and I just didn't really get it.

But now that I've had time to reflect on it, I keep thinking "Wow! He actually thought I was hitting on him in front of both our kids and spouses!" Like a pink cat face is such a hot way to pick guys up! HA!

So which is worse - the fact that this guy thought I was coming on to him like a painted cat in heat, or the fact that he couldn't get away from me fast enough?!?

Jun. 23, 2008 at 12:40 AM He obviously had no sense of humor is all I can say. What a dweeb! I can see myself getting painted like that to encourage my daughter and then also doing what you did when you spoke to that guy. He must be a goose, or really has had thoughts of cheating, I dont know, just plain goofy is all. I wouldnt worry about it much more though.

More adults SHOULD get their face painted, even if their kids are willing or even if they're grown!  It's nice to let down the hair and have a good time. : )

Maybe he felt goofy in his hat and wasn't comfortable with someone SO comfortable in their "cat" skin. lol. : )

Note to self:  Never, ever, let a pink cat near husband.

Just kidding!  What a strange thing to say!  I think I'd assume there were some serious issues in his marriage and not worry about it.

That's pretty funny!  Sounds like the guy was clueless.  Some guys just don't know what to do with female attention that is NOT sexual, you know?!?!

Glad you guys had fun!

Jun. 25, 2008 at 3:07 PM Really! Was his wife there? He might've misunderstood you like you said, or might've been intentionally overreacting for the sake of other people seeing it. That's a weird response from a man.

Jun. 25, 2008 at 4:07 PM Bwahahahaaaaahahaaaaa!!!!!    OMG!  That was MY husband and after reading this I asked him if you tapped him on the shoulder and made a comment about his balloon hat and he said yeah and what he said when he was walking away (to chase after our 20 month old) was "Thanks! I'm gonna have a spider man face."   He was going to get his face painted like spider man but the clowns left shortly after.  It was a mis-understanding :o)  If someone had hit on him, he would have been so excited  LOLOL
