I have a devotional(He is Real by Millie Stamm) that I read as soon as I get into work. Today's devotion was on Proverbs 3:26. The Lord shall be thy confidence...
It goes on to explain of a devastating flood in Denver years ago. How everyone's years of hard work was swept away in a matter of days.
How often we build our lives on the security of material possessions. We accumulate a large savings account, buy a home, a car, and other material things to give us a sense of security. While it is wise to make plans for the future, it isn't wise to build our security on them.
Jesus said, "Lay not up for yourselves treasures upon earth, where moth and rust doth corrupt, and where thieves break through and steal: but lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust doth corrupt, and where thieves do not break through nor steal (Matthew 6:19-20).
Solomon reminds us where out security must be. "The LORD shall be thy confidence." Our confidence is not to be place in possessions, but in the person of Jesus Christ. He is our security. He will never fail.
As we face an unknown future, uncertain of what lies ahead, we must be careful where we place our confidence. We can either cast it away on material possessions, or we can let HIM be our confidence. "Jesus Christ the same yesterday, and today, and for ever" (Hebrews 13:8).
