I took my DD in today for her 4 month checkup and shots.  She has never had a very big softspot since she was born.  Her first doc said that they would just watch her head growth and see what happened.  Her growth is on the 20% and that is where it has been.  Her new doc. wants me to take her in for a CT scan of her head to see if her soft spot is closing to soon.  If it is he says she might need surgery.  My husband has already lost one child due to problems with the way his skull formed in conception.  I don't know what to do.  I don't want to risk it and not have it done, but I don't want to put her through more than she needs to be.  She is healthy and very happy.  She doesn't cry too much she is growing like she is suppose to and maybe alittle ahead of schudle on some things.  If anyone out there as any advice I will take it.  I would also like any prayers that you could send my way.  I am very scared and not sure what to do.  Thany you ladies in advance.

What harm is a CT scan? Its not usually invasive, maybe a I.V. but nothing too traumatic...

It will reassure you if everything is growing right, and if it isn't it will catch it quick enough so that measures can be taken to prevent problems.  If your dh has history of children with skull deformities I would want the test to help make sure there isn't a problem....

The thing I would worry about is what harm could I do to my child if I didn't have it done and the soft spot closed too soon...

Jun. 24, 2008 at 5:05 PM Soft spots closing too soon? I never heard of such a thing!!!! My daughter doesn't have any soft spots on her head (that we know of at least) and she's 9 months. We took her in for the 6 month, and when we would feel for the soft spots, they weren't there. I was always paranoid since we took her home from the hospital due to the two  soft spots she had, but the top one closed up early on, and the lower one closed shortly thereafter. I'll keep you and your family in my thoughts and prayers regardless. I'd say get the CT scan done, just so you know everything is good. If they find something "wrong" then it's good to catch it now so you can get it taken care of if need be.
