Sherrie's Journal

chatting, venting, sharing, and giggling

I've caught a few episodes that touched and saddened me.  The one where Morgan & his fiancee had to live on minimum wage for a month was hard to watch in some ways, but I know people who live the way they did and knew what to expect.  They were blown away by how hard it was.  Another episode took two people unfazed by the size of their carbon footprints and moved them into a commune for a month.  They learned a lot and stopped mocking those who cared for the environment.   These episodes were pretty decent and the subjects had open minds.

The episode tonight was hard.  A gay couple with adopted and foster children hosted a woman who believed they were morally wrong.  Even though it seemed to break her heart that kids have grown up in group homes, she would prefer they stay in homes rather than being adopted or fostered by same sex couples.    Any time she was questioned she'd get offended, defensive, and angry.  There were times that she was attacked, and I would have reacted the same way she did.  Well, maybe I wouldn't have stomped off and slammed doors, but I would have been upset.

The constant with her is that no matter how conflicted she was about children being left in homes, she refused to see anything outside of her view even for a minute because of her beliefs.  She also said that she could be friends with the couple and their children, but not support them as a family.  That if they would agree to disagree that they would be fine.  One of the fathers told her he couldn't be her friend because he wanted to be with people who supported them as a whole.  He was disappointed that he had to draw a line after believing he would not be that type of person.

I missed the PETA/hunter episode and only caught the tail end of the illegal immigrant family/Minuteman show.  Dangit!

I think the concept of the show is a good one.  People learn a lot about those living on the other side of the fence, and hopefully take something positive out of it.  End misconceptions and see people as people and not stereotypes.

I absolutely adore that show but I can't ever seem to catch it this season as I am usually passed out when they show it. :(

I've seen the minuteman one and the illegal show.  That was a good one with a pretty good ending. :)

Morgan Spurlock is awesome. Oh I also saw the min wage one. Great show.  Too bad I have to miss it.  I need a DVR.

i saw last tuesday's when the former NFL player was confined to a wheelchair for 30 days.  it was heartbreaking to see him interact with a young woman recently paralyzed by a car accident...to watch her struggle to do the things she will have to do for the rest of her life....even just sitting up in bed...

it was just a reminder that things could change in an instant...

he took it with grace and a huge amount of character and really understood the struggles that these people have to endure...

Jun. 25, 2008 at 8:50 AM It is a cool show. I only saw the one of the illegal immigrant family/Minuteman one, but man, it was deep. It is cool that they look into the depth of people and really make them look, too.
