In my devotional this morning, it talks about doing our Father's will and not our own.
Thy will be done in earth, as it is in heaven (Matthew 6:10).
Often we pray the above words of Scripture without thinking. But knowing and doing the will of God is the most important part of our lives. The devotion goes on to talk about Jesus praying in the garden of Gethsemane. "O my Father, if it be possible, let this cup pass from Me" (Matthew 26:39). But His struggle ended with, "neverthelesss, not my will, but thine, be done". (Luke 22:42).
As I read this, it made me go into scripture and read what each book of the gospel said of His time in the garden. What struck me in Luke was how He was praying. In Luke 22:44 it states, And being in agony, He prayed more earnestly. Then His sweat became like great drops of blood falling to the ground.
Oh how hard He must have been praying. Knowing that His time on earth would soon be over. He knew what He was here for. He knew He was going to be betrayed, beaten, ridiculed, nailed to a cross. Yet, He prayed. Prayed with such passion his sweat turned to blood. How weak my prayer life is compared to this.
I pray without ceasing. Oh but how I want to pray like Jesus did.
