I've said before that we won't ever be as "Organic" or "Green" as the most adamant naturalists, but we do little things here and there to try to help the environment.
I discovered Dropps Laundry Detergent early at the beginning of this year, but back then it was rather expensive. The price has decreased since then (though not by much), so I decided to give the product a try.
Let me explain how Dropps work:
Dropps stands for "Dissolvable, Ready-to-Use, Premeasured Packets." Hence, Dropps are pre-measured packages of liquid detergent. Unlike regular detergents that contain mostly water, ALL water is eliminated from Dropps, and thus they are 6x concentrated! Here are what the packs look like ....

Now 6x concentrated may seem like a lot, but it's honestly not. The reason store bought detergents can only be 2x and 3x concentrated is because, again, they contain mostly water. Why do you want more water in your wash? Doesn't the machine provide plenty? Though they have such a high concentration, Dropps really don't make a lot of suds in the wash, but I guarantee you if you check the water in the machine while using a pack, you can SEE the results! I haven't even seen such dirty laundry water in our machine before!
This is how Dropps come packaged ....
The basic pack of Dropps contains 20 pouches. I found ours at Wal-Mart and they only cost $4.97 (they are $6.00 on the Dropps site). They come in two types; Fresh scent and scent free/dye free. I got a package of the scent and dye free because we have been using Free & Clear detergents for quite a while now. Dropps are very eco-friendly because once the package is empty, that is the only thing you have to dispose of. On top of that, the packaging is biodegradable, unlike those big, bulky, plastic bottles. If you want to go for a bigger pack of this product, I recommend buying directly from the site. Our Wal-Mart only had the small packs, but Target carries the next size package, which is the 60 count pack. At Target it costs $22.99, whereas on the Dropps site it is only $18.00.
How do they work? Simple. You drop a pack in the wash (two packs if it's a really large load), turn your machine on, and your done! That's it! No measuring or anything. What about the pack? The pack dissolves in the wash!
I can assure you that there is no left behind residue from the packaging.
As far as my husband and I, we love these things, though we wish they were priced more reasonably. We have found that our clothes feel softer after a wash using Dropps. They definitely make doing laundry easier on me. It's so great not having to pick up a big, bulky jug of detergent, plus the packaging saves so much room! I can't wait to try them in the new heavy duty washer we have in the new house!
I really just had to review this product. They are so simple and convenient, yet so eco-friendly. There is tons of info about how eco-friendly they really are on the Dropps website, including how their shipping process is better on the environment.
I'll leave you all with a few facts ....

My daughter is heading off to college soon and this seems like something that would benefit her as well (as taking up less bulky space also.)
