back to Pittsburgh Dentist( Specialist) again! He has yet another infection were they did surgery to take out cyst. Its a never ending thing with this poor kids mouth. This is the 2nd infection since the surgery. This time they have him on a much STRONGER antibiotic. It smells nasty! It tastes nasty! The only way I could get him to take this medicine is to give him LUCKY CHARMS cereal after to get the taste out of his mouth! LOL! POOR KID!
Anyway, They think they may have to take out his 12 yr old molar. Somethng about .......umm..... something around the tooth isnt letting the part where he had the surgery heal. Since he had an infection 2 wks after surgery and then 2 weeks afer he was off last antibiotics, they are thnking the tooth may be no good. So here is where we are right now, He goes July 7th to his regular dentist to get a regular cleaning done and his dentist is working closely with his specialist, so he is suppose to take ANOTHER xray of this tooth and we will send that xray to the specialist also. By then he will have been off this batch of antibiotics for a bit and we should be able to see if the infection is back again. In the mean time we have to keep a close eye on him. Look for signs, like more swelling, cant swallow, cant eat, throat closing up, fatigue, chills, or him just not acting like himself. If any of these occur, then we are to rush him up to Children's Hospital ER and they will do emergency surgery then. If none of these occur BUT when we go to his dentist and get bad news from the xray, then we will schedule to have surgery done, but is wont be rushed. So there is still a chance of no surgery BUT, The specialist seems to think its gonna happen at some time. Because its a 12 year molar they dont want to do anything unless they are 100% sure this tooth is no good. He will have a pretty big HOLE in his mouth BUT the specialist assured us it can be fixed at a later date when its time or he is old enough for braces. On a good note so far Devin is taking all of this very well! He is being the" big boy". He said its not real painful just very uncomfortable. When the specialist told him he may have to have more surgery, Devin was so excited! LOL! ONLY my kid would love surgery! I guess I rather it be this way than have to fight him to get it done =) I will update when i know more!
