It's so much fun to see Alyssa's imagination develop! Last week, I decided to practice the piano (for the first time in AGES). Alyssa has always been fascinated with the piano, and music in general.
Anyway, I removed the cover, opened the lid, grabbed some sheet music, and sat down on the piano bench. Alyssa climbed up on the bench next to me, and placed her hands on the keyboard, then the two of us began to play.
Our cat, Gracie, immediately runs to the piano whenever she hears me playing it. Very strange, but she always LOVES to be on the bench with me while I play. So when Alyssa and I were playing, she again ran to the piano, only to stop short when she saw Alyssa in "her" spot on the bench. I saw the internal conflict in Gracie's walnut-sized brain - get up on the piano bench with Mommy and enjoy the music, or stay on the floor and avoid Alyssa's touches? She chose the bench. And the three of us - Alyssa and I on the bench, Gracie on my lap, purring - made beautiful music together. It was a very sweet moment.
Well, a few days ago, while I worked, I saw Alyssa get up from her table and start moving her folding chairs around. I watched quietly as she moved both chairs over to her activity table, in front of the side with the toy piano. Then, she grabbed Donald Duck, sat him in one chair, and sat down in the chair next to him and began to play. Needing some sheet music, Alyssa got up, grabbed her coloring book, and propped it up in front of the keyboard. Then she grabbed Donald's hand and "helped" him play the piano!

And this time, Gracie decided to sit this one out!
