Are you worried about Real ID (National ID card)? If not, maybe you should be!

Watch this brief (2 min) clip showing how easily & seriously this can impact our privacy!

EDIT 7/1:  After seeing some of the comments below, I wanted to add that of course this scenario is not "real"; anyone who actually watches the clip realizes this is not (currently) a reality.  This segment is an attempt to portray what could easily happen at some future time if we have a National ID card and the private & personal information of individuals is stored in one single, government-managed database.

The video clip is from the well-researched, full-length documentary film America:  Freedom to Fascism by Aaron Russo, which is all about the Federal Reserve, the Income Tax and other Constitutional issues

If you don't care to watch the 2 minute clip because it is "Youtube", then please visit the link just below it. That site has actual information about the Real ID Act:- what the legislation allows,  how the legislation can seriously compromise individual privacy, and the numerous problems that are likely to occur with a National ID -- including how such an ID / database will actually make Americans LESS SAFE.

Stroodle - Thanks for the vote & comment.

You are right about most people not being concerned.

For those of you who think it's NOT happening - it IS!  The federal legislation for the national ID - The REAL ID ACT - has already passed & states MUST comply by 2009 (2009 is only 6 months away - yikes!).

Think about all those companies & entities that have access to your info & store them on computers - your health info, your financial state, what you buy online, what books your read, what videos you rent  etc. Those databases CAN BE connected all together, just as this video clip shows.

Just think about Credit Reports as a good example. Started out as a small project, now it's nationwide & collects all kinds of info on each person - accurate or not. For anyone who has tried to remove incorrect data, you know how time-consuming it is, how much paperwork & phone calls & letters are involved - and how it sometimes take months.

This will be the same, only WORSE... while Credit Reports have only financial data, the REAL ID can have data on EVERY ASPECT of your life... anything that is stored on any computer anywhere (which is pretty much everything now!)

Jun. 29, 2008 at 4:34 PM I guess it doesn't bother me very much because I grew up around the military and everyone had to have an ID card, Heck I still call my drivers license my ID card. Honestly I think it's kind of a good idea. But that's just one woman's opinion. :)

Jun. 29, 2008 at 4:46 PM We are in a heap of trouble if this goes through!   It's never ever a good idea to feel apathetic toward something like this.   Apathy is cowardice!  It's unacceptable!   This is "papers please" and it's monumentally unacceptable!

The Real ID Act is a Real Nightmare ....

"The Real ID Act creates a federal identity document that every American will need in order to fly on commercial airlines, enter government buildings, open a bank account, and more.

It creates huge administrative burdens for state governments, while providing no federal funds for implementing its onerous requirements.  At the same time, it does nothing to combat terrorism, and puts us at greater risk for invasions of privacy and identity theft.

I have a friend who works on a boat that takes supplies to oil rigs, he was made to get on of these ID'S already, he was told it was from the things that have happened since 911.

I will say it again, Bush and our Government are taking away our rights one by one and no one says a word.

Jun. 29, 2008 at 7:04 PM I try to inform people about this but they do not take me seriously. I am also a big skeptic of the government and people know this so they probably think I talk about issues such as the Real ID and the North American Union because I believe the "rumors". The government is getting just what they want and that is to have a bunch of clueless people out there who do not think the government could be shady for one second.

Jun. 29, 2008 at 7:12 PM That's the problem - nobody wants to believe it could be shady.  Not too long ago I was avoiding the facts, also.
