Yesterday was Drew's surgery, as some of you know. He did soooo good!!! We got to the hospital at 6am and into his room about 6:15. They allowed him to take his doggie with him into surgery and even gave him a little Ty lion too!! They gave him some "sleepy medicine" before he went back to the surgical suite so he would be more relaxed when they put the gas mask on. The medicine made his nose feel weird and made him VERY loopy!!!

They took him back to surgery around 7:35. Hil went with him because Drew is such a daddy's boy. Hil said that he did great!!! He had no problem with the mask at all. In fact he was actually smiling at all the nurses ;) The anesthesiologist had told us that most kids HATE the mask and resist it big time. Not my boy!! He's such a trooper and just goes with the flow... No I'm not a proud momma or anything :)

Hil & I ate breakfast, took a stroll through the Healing Garden and then sat outside to wait for our page. We got our page around 9am telling us that Drew was out of surgery and the doctor would like to talk to us. Dr. Ciresi came in and told us that Drew did great and tolerated the surgery well. He said that the hernia was very large for a two year old :( The doctor said that he could fit his pointer, middle and ring finger in the hole!!!

So then it was back outside to wait for our next page telling us that Drew was awake and we could see & hold him. We got that page around 9:40 or so. Drew was crying for mommy, but in reality he just wanted daddy!! He was not a happy camper at all. He hated the oxygen thingy they had taped to his big toe, he HATED the IV in his hand and they poor thing threw up 3 times in the hospital. The nurse could not take the IV out until he ate or drank something. We tried jello, apple juice, a Popsicle and Coke. He wanted NOTHING to do with any of it!!! Finally we got him to drink some Coke and then a bit more and finally he even held the can on his own. At that point the nurse said that she could take the IV out and we could go home!!!

We then had to go to my mom's house to pick up Anna and the dogs. We sat there for a bit. Drew fell asleep in Hil's lap, woke up and puked over Hil's shoulder, went back to sleep, woke up and puked all over himself and Hil. Thankfully we were outside!!!

Our discharge instructions are as follows: No bath for 1 week, shower or sponge bath after 2 days; no swimming for 1 week; no playground equipment or trike for 2weeks!!!!!!!

The doctor told us that Drew would be up and running around by today. Well, Drew was up and running around by 1pm yesterday!!! You never would have known that he had just had surgery that morning. It's going to be a challenge keeping him off his swingset or from wanting his trikes. We did hide all of his ride on toys... so hopefully, out of sight out of mind!!

Sorry this got so long!! Thanks for reading all the way if you did.  Now to make it even longer, here are a ton of pictures from the morning....

GLAD ALL WENT WELL! I know it scary for your child to have surgery. My son had 2 surgery's in his jaw in the last month and a half and will probably have another in a few weeks. But he did well like your did. I was proud of him too =)
