I have had this thought in my head for quite sometime now to share my story from the past 5 years that may inspire some to praise the Lord even more.
I am blessed, I have a beautiful 4 1/2 year old little boy named Matthew. When I got pregnant I was unwed, 18 and scared. I decide to take action for what has become so Matthew was born Dec 2, 2003. Matthew has a rare heart condition called Hypoplastic Left heart syndrome (he only was born with two chambers instead of 4, and his left side of his heart in under develop) He was diagnosed in utero, and I had a choice to abort, take him home and let him pass or fight for his life.
I decided I am going to fight with the Lords Army behind us. Matthew had his first surgery when he was two days old, he did well and came home two weeks later. I did not have my mother around to "help" but I had my father, my boyfriend (now husband) and my friends to help me along. I took him to a routine check up at the Cardiologist and she said he would benefit from an angioplasty, very common, with low risks. He went in that day did well, I went home to change and shower and got a phone call I will never forget. "Matthew is a ticking time bomb you need to get here as fast as you can." The words the nurse spoke ran through me like cold ice. The Doctor who performed the angioplasty went too far into my sons aortic valve and essentially blew up his heart it was only time....
He was transported to another hospital who was better equipped to handle this problem. He had surgery the next day and I prayed, and prayed..The nurse came out and said, "I'm sorry he is not going to make it please have him baptised" and handed me a box of tissues. I broke down and prayed to the Lord above to help me as I was submitting myself to him. A couple of minutes later the nurse came back out and said "he is off bypass he is in critical but stable condition" AMEN!
A lot of ups and down and 6 weeks in the hospital I finally got to take my little boy home. He was doing so well, gaining weight thriving etc. He had another operation at 11 months old, and he left the hospital in just 7 days! (The Lord is GOOD)
He is now 4 and healthy as can be he is scheduled for one more operation but we can not determine when because he is thriving on his own.
The point of my story is God will not give you anything you can not handle I was given this little boy for a reason he is here with us to witness the faith and Glory of the Lord God. I pray everyday for God to continue to old Matthews heart in his hands and all I can say is God is Good. Thank you Jesus!
