Who would have thought that my family would spend an entire day in a tattoo parlor? Noone that knows us!!!
Well, the daughter decided in her early teens that she wanted tattoos. I let her know that when she turned 18, she could put a bone thru her nose....her decision. The day after her birthday, her fanny was on the table, so to speak. Her first tat is on her hip. That became the day that taught us lots about 'letting go' as the kids mature.....When the artist questioned the 'look' on Daddy's face during the procedure, I let him know, "See that bottom you're tattooing? Well, her Daddy here used to warm diaper wipes in the microwave for that little fanny!"
Our son's tattoo holds great meaning for him, as it symbolizes the hurt, fear, and uncertainty that reigned supreme during my injury in 1998. He was 9, and was my absolute rock during the months noone could tell my family with any certainty that I would survive. Our healing as a family has been multifacited and enriching. That boy sat in the chair for over 4 hours with only a 5 minute break. He was doing what he needed to do as his healing is all his own.
Before Christmas this past year, we all decided that during the daughter's visit from school we should all get tattoos!!! Everyone but me chose 'family crest' tats. They all represent initials of everyone in the family. Mine? I chose my Irish roots and my connection with God...hence the Celtic Cross and the Creation. Imagine my TRUST that I put into our artist...."I know it's a Michelangelo, but I have faith in your abilities as an artist!!!" He got it down to the FINGERNAILS...amazing work...I'm very please.
So in closing....as we age, never say never.....you never now what lies in store just around the corner......
Smiles for miles...........CelticMom![]()
Comments:
I would love to see what your tat looks like, it must be gorgeous. I am considering getting one myself, but want to get one that isn't very cliche, and one that I can hide to protect myself from long conversations with my inlaws on why you should not get tattoos. hehe
Again, you inspire me.
never had a tattoo...neither has my husband...but like you said...you never know.
That is sooo cool to do that. I believe that a family that lives life together stays together. ![]()
