bk wants to call her AK. 

shannon asked about the inspiration & how we decided...

i have been gravitating toward more classic names.  

& one of bk & i's favorite movies is lovers of the arctic circle-- it's a spanish foreign indie movie about palindromes & love & the arctic circle & german pilotos. the main charachter's name is ana-- it was one of the first names i suggested to bk & we both loved the name ana, but  it just didn't feel right for some reason. i've been having an internal battle of names for the past month i think.but anabelle stayed on our list next to twila & rory & lulu & all the other names that were trying too hard to be "zelda."

so, flash forward-- my mom calls me two nights ago to tell me about this dream she had in which i had just had the new baby & we were calling her anabelle faye. 

my mom had no idea this name was on my list of names i loved. she had no idea we had already decided to use the middle name faye-- it's my grandmother's middle name & a tribute to her as she was one of the most amazing women ever & definitely a big inspiration to who i am. for whatever reason though, she had this epiphany about the name in a dream. 

i laughed & scratched the name off my list-- fully knowing now that if i picked the name, my mom would forever think we picked her name.

but i started thinking about it. & i told bk about the dream & how odd it was.  & in telling the story about my crazy mom's epiphany i realized: this is the name. this is the story i'll be telling my daughter about her name.

it's not zelda maru. it's not a z name. it's not even similar sounding-- & i think that's what i really wanted in a name for our second child, her own name & identity that doesn't compare in any way to her big sister. & yes, we'll have the beginning & end of the alphabet-- i'm a nerd. 

& we get to call her ana, which i love.
