While I think homosexuality is morally a sin, why are we making something that is a sin illegal?  Like not letting them get married is going to stop the behavior?  Yeah, thats not going to happen.  Let people decide what they want to do when it comes to moral issues.

Is it illegal for me to swear?  Is it illegal for me to overeat?  How about if I lusted after the neighbor?  Or hate my husbands exgirlfriend?  No, SINS should not be regulated by the govt.

Sure things like murder and theft are illegal, and sins, but they are not JUST sins to a few select religions.  MANY faiths (or people with no religious ties) believe homosexuality is ok. and it isnt hurting anybody, so why should the govt step in and decide if someone should "sin" or not.  And like I said, its NOT the marriage that is the sin, its the act of homosexuality, so it doesnt make ANY sense.  Premarital sex is also a sin, so the govt is actually ENDORSING premaritial sex in this case?  Seriously, what harm is making it legal going to hurt ANYONE?

Laws should be there to protect people, not limit them from "sinning" which as far as I can tell is the ONLY thing that makes homosexuality "wrong", a faith based belief.  As long as this govt is based on the seperation of church and state, then we have no buisiness limiting two peoples choices in who they marry.

Some people say WHO AM I TO JUDGE THEM?  I'm not "judging them"  like you think I have a stance on what I PERSONALLY believe about them, and guess what?  That I am allowed. I'm not THE JUDGE, but everybody has opinions I am 1000% allowed to think that they are sinning.  It is a part of my faith.  Am I pressing my beliefs on someone else?  No.  That is the key there.  You may or may not  have a judgment on them that what they are doing is NOT a sin.  I judge that it is a sin.  Is either right LEGALLY speaking?  Yes, they BOTH are.  You are allowed to have an opinion on thier lifestyle, judging it sin or not.  Judging is not wrong.  Everybody judges.  Judging is JUST an opinion on something.  Heck, you can even have STUPID jugments on people.  You cant have an opinion with out a judgment of sorts.  Doesnt mean I decided in any way shape or form what the "punishment" is, if there even IS one, but I can know to ME and my faith its wrong.  JUST like the THOUSAND other sins out there people commit on a daily basis.

I dont understand how people get upset when somebody says something is a sin.  Hey in some beliefs its a sin for a woman to show her face.  Hey they can say I'm "sinning" and I'll just laugh and say "whatever."  If you dont believe something is a sin, then laugh and say "whatever, thats your opinion" and drop it.  UNLESS I am doing somthing to infringe on YOUR personal rights you cant say I cant think you are sinning.

If the govt came in and said its now illegal for women to show thier faces, I'd be FURIOUS, cause thats the govt using one FAITHS MORAL BELIEFS as a legal mandate.  I feel for homosexual community because I can put myself in thier shoes with TONS of things.  If somebodies faith says its immoral to wear red, and I choose to wear red, I'm not hurting anybody, and I'm not doing anything wrong in MY faith, so they can think I'm wrong, but I dont think I'm wrong, and the govt needs to keep thier freaking nose out of it.

Now thinking somebodies sinning is NOT condoning things like hate.  I have had gay friends in the past, and  my husband works with one now that he considers an awesome guy!  My MIL's best friends are a gay couple, and they are really cool.  I have no issues with any of them but you know what, they are IN MY EYES sinning doing that.  Am I sinning on a daily basis also?  Yes.  Do I try not to?  Yes.  Do I fail?  Yes.  Do I think they will go to hell cause they are homosexuals?  No.  That is not my judgment call to make. I can know that God and the bible tells me that what they do is wrong, (just like many things I do) but that doesnt mean I can decide what their "fate" is.  Biblical Christianity is not about "doing the right thing" its about putting your faith in Christ and knowing that he has TAKEN the punishment for those sins away.  Should we still strive to be good?  Of course.  Will that effect weather or not we go to heaven?  No.

I know some people think this is a judgmental post and think I am against the homosexuals out there, but I'm not.  I'm just saying that the whole "make gay marriage illegal thing" doesnt make ANY sense to me.

Your premise is based on the belief that the government is trying to restrict homosexual relationships. As far as I can tell that is not the case. Most states provide civil unions for homosexual couples that include all the same rights as marriage. Based on prior elections, it is likely that any state still lacking civil unions could easily pass them with little or no opposition. The only thing that people wish to reserve is the name "marriage." They want a difference preserved between a religiously sanctioned union and a legal union. For those who argue that this distinction is discriminatory, the idea has been proposed that all relationships formerly known as "marriages" should be officially recognized as civil unions. "Marriage" would then only be a word applied to religiously sanctioned unions.

I agree that if the govt (the people) want to stop homosexual "marriage" then they need to officially remove the fact that marriage is not ONLY a relious thing.  If marriage was officially declaired ONLY a religeous union, then I honestly dont think there would be an issue, but the fact that it DOES remain as a CIVIL thing herin lays the problem.  I doubt EVER that will happen, so until that time that marriage becomes a religeous union and there is a completly seperate legal ceremony that is NOT called a marriage, then it isnt fair to restrict homosexuals from getting "married".

There are literally HUNDREDS of things that you are not entitled to with a civil union without TONS of extra paperwork and filing of legal documents and legal precedings and fighting for benefits, and etc that many times get tossed out cause of technicalities.  With a marriage they are all entited to those things automatically.  I'd LOVE to think that its JUST the word they are trying to protect, but its not.

America was founded on Seperation of Church and State.  That there gives me the freedom to believe my beliefs and others to believe their beliefs as long as they arent treading on each others rights.  To push the fact that homosexual marriage is "wrong" crosses that sepreration.

Jul. 13, 2008 at 10:08 AM I was told anyway the reason they dont want marrage legalized is because they dont want homosexuals having the same benefits as a married couple, ya know taxes and all the govt. stuff.
