The Birthsong The night is still, the moon full and bright
She feels it approaching, her belly once again tight
All is in ready the time’s finally come
She’s hoping her baby will be here by the rising of the sun.

The song begins gently, moving slowly at first
The courage, the fear, the love, the hope and the mirth
Some sing quite softly and some loud and strong
Their babies emerge as they sing the Birthsong

Time becomes frozen as woman by woman, birth by birth
They’re all connected through their bodies & songs
It knows no boundaries, no color, no races
It fills all their bodies, their hearts, souls and faces.
The sounds of each woman as she sings the Birthsong

Her breathing grows faster as each new wave moves within
She remembers to let go, to surrender again
She opens her eyes and sees her partner, her lover, her friend
Remembering with tenderness their choice to begin

The song begins gently, moving slowly at first
The courage, the fear, the love and the hope
Some sing quite softly and some loud and strong
Their babies emerge as they sing the Birthsong

Time becomes frozen as woman by woman, birth by birth
They’re all connected through their bodies & songs
It knows no boundaries, no color, no races
It fills all their bodies, their hearts, souls and faces.
The sounds of each woman as she sings the Birthsong

The songs been completed the babe’s in her arms
Both teary eyed parents are moved by it’s charms
The song appears ended at least in this room
But I’ll hear it eternal with other bright moons.

~ Dana Beardshear

Just as a woman’s heart knows how and when to pump, her lungs to inhale, and her hand to pull back from fire, so she knows when and how to give birth.
~ Virginia Di Orio

The knowledge of how to give birth without outside intervention lies deep within each woman. Successful childbirth depends on an acceptance of the process.
~ Suzanne Arms

Subsequent Pregnancy

  • This is a new birth and a new baby unique unto itself.
  • I see my last birth as a learning experience from which I am growing and changing.

Some further thoughts…..

  • Say yes to the spirit of birth. In labour, call your baby minutes before the birth. During pregnancy, talk and walk with your baby
  • Birth is an inward process, feel the lower part of your body during labour. Every process of growth of a person is an inward process
  • Take your life in your own hands and draw it together. Seek the best midwife or doctor for you and then take responsibility in your pregnancy
  • Look at the significant scenes in your life and create the power in them to take your pregnancy to wellness
  • There are always important events in our lives that reflect the inner creativity which will propel us to trust our body during birth and parenting
  • We perceive every life observations we take in our dreams. Make them a source of energy that you and your midwife can tap during the birthing process
  • Life is a work of art and determination to be well. Our cells are waiting for our command to perform well during stress and birthing
  • Position yourself in the moment of your life. Position your body in hands or knees or semi-squatting to deliver the baby with ease and all your energy. Don't give up when you think, you could not carry any longer. Seek the wisdom of midwives and mothers
  • Explore life's meaning, contemplate during your pregnancy as you walk a mile everyday to prepare your body for the opening and receiving of a new life
  • Use every positive relationship, the love of your parents, partners and your love for your baby to keep you focus on the birth and pregnancy
  • Let the important aspect of our lives speak to us, let the baby speak to us and let our body speak to us
  • Imagine a mother in you....
