Being Present in the Moment

Someone once told me that in order to move on
I needed to learn to be fully present in the moment.
For a long time I struggled with what this statement truly meant;
even moreso, I struggled with what that would feel like.
I knew that to be fully present in the moment would mean more than just actually being there physically.
I knew that to be fully present in the moment would require a unified meeting of the mind, body, spirit and soul.
So I am on a quest to figure this out. Day by day, minute by minute, moment by moment.

Whatever it is that life presents us, we need to be present in it.  There are too many events in life that cause us to lose focus on the purpose of our lives.  Therefore, it is our job to train our minds and our spirits to be present in what ever confronts us. When bad things happen to us, (the good people), we have a tendency to want to run or rather escape to the nearest exit.  We want to move past what all of our senses are telling us to someplace where we don't have to experience the reality of the moment.  The strange part is that we do the same thing when the good things happen to us.  Why?  Instead of expecting good things to happen, we gear ourselves up for the worst and then wonder why it happened!  Doesn't seem to make much sense to me.  The drawback to this is that when we are not fully present in the moment, we run the risk of missing out on where we need to be fully present in order to see what is up ahead.

But it's scary to live in the moment. We don't want the moment to end because we are afraid that it will never be present again.  When will we learn that being fully present in the moment, engaging in life's events rather than watching them, is essentially what God wants us to do.  Being fully present in the moment brings us closer to experiencing the abundance of life that Jesus said that he brought to us.  What could be scary about that?  The reality of the possibility of having the life that we have dreamed about, the relationships that we crave, the love that we need should give us enough reason to desire to be fully present in every moment of our lives.
