Okay, I just have to vent, and since this is my 'kinda' journal, here goes....

toddler time at the North County Library is NOT geared towards toddlers!! Ikeep going back to give it another chance but after today NO MORE!  i love the library, don't get me wrong we go at least once a week, but the story hour there is NOT developmentally appropriate for children between the ages of 1-3!!!  Today, there was no organization between the storytellers and I couldn't even understand one of them reading a story!!  It is unreasonable for parents to expect their child to be able to sit still for 45 minutes without any transitions!!  The storytellers need to get the children UP and moving between stories!  We also go to the Story Hour at the Vero Beach Book Center on Friday mornings and it is WONDERFUL!  Miss Julie gets the children up and dancing after every book.  She has the children sitting right in front of her and HOLDS THE BOOK DOWN LOW so the kids can see the pictures.  She makes the children stand up and sing and dance after each book.... soooo much better!!!

My daughter actually got spoken to today because she moved closer to the stage to see the book.  She got told that she needed to move because she couldn't see the book from where she had moved to!!  I felt like saying, well, nobody on the other side of the room can see the book either!!!  arggggg..... i am NOT a complainer, but, as a teacher, I feel like someone may need to give these ladies some tips on improving the story hour!!

Finally, after 30 minutes of sitting, my 3 year old and my 1 and a half year old got up and quietly left.... at the same time, like, 5 other people got up and left too.... I felt a little disrespectful, but at the same time, it would've been disruptive for me to have kept my wiggly children in there soooooo.... NO MORE....

Jul. 15, 2008 at 1:55 PM When I went a few weeks ago, I was wondering about the age-appropriateness of it, being geared towards smaller kids.  Sure, Cason was able to sit there and not move but I was watching the others go willy-nilly.I have wanted to try the book center, as I have heard wonderful things about Ms. Julie.  I will say that the Seb. toddler time is 1000 times better than the one in Vero.

My husband use to take our daughter when we lived there a few months ago. I went with them once and he was letting her play out in the doll house...everyone was lined up on chairs lecture style in the story room. BOOOOOORRRRREEEE.

I tried taking her to the main library once, but while all the other kids sat quietly and hung out with their parents she was bouncing around the room. I didn't feel comfortable in that setting either but it was a month or so ago, so we will try it again. I was thinking of trying Miss Julie's Music time at walton (we live downtown)

Jul. 16, 2008 at 10:42 PM The book center one is an hour. We tried it once, but too many kids, too many toys and books to play with, and too long.  Not working at the library either so we just do our own storytime at home.  We go once a week to the library to pick out ten books and two DVDs and my kids love to read so it is just better to do it at home.
