Today we got a letter in the mail from the Governor's mansion! Goodie Goodie!
To the Parents of Justin X
Hmm... A little afraid to open this...
Welcome, Little One [cutesy animals and balloons tied to pacifiers]
Congratulations on the birth of your new baby!
Childbirth is an exciting event for every family,
and we are proud to share in your joy.
A healthy child is a happy child.
Therefore, it is important that your baby receive
proper immunizations by two months of age.
It will help to ensure protection against future illnesses.
Best wishes to your whole family on this very special occasion.
Rod Blagojevich
Now, isn't that nice! I think I'm going to send him a letter in return.
Dear Gov. Blagojevich,
Thanks so much for the sweet card that you sent in commemoration of my son Justin's birth. You'll be surprised to learn that he celebrated his first birthday two months ago.
I was alarmed when I read that he was supposed to receive his immunizations by two months! If only I had known, I would never have waited until he turned a year old before starting his immunizations! There is no post date on your letter, so I will assume that it has been lost in the mail for a year, because I know you would not send such an important notice after the crucial two-month milestone!
If you did happen to send it late, I know that it's all my fault for having a homebirth in Illinois. It is such a burden on state workers to have to process Justin's information differently than all of the regular babies whose paperwork comes from hospitals. I'm not at all surprised that the severe hardship would cause a year delay in recognizing that I birthed a child. I know you are trying very hard to maintain Illinois' excellent track record of supporting women who birth outside of hospitals.
Thanks again.
