Open Letter to Moms Who Think I Have Nothing Better To Do

Seriously. I stay at home, but do you think I have nothing better to do than entertain your kids?

You know who you are. Your kids wake up at the ass crack of dawn and run outside. You know they're at my house, so they're safe. But not once do my children get invited to your house. Not once do you call to ask if it's ok if they're here. Not once during the day do you check on them or call them home for lunch.

Why? Oh, that's because you're a mom who works outside the home and you need time to clean your house or do whatever it is you're doing. Me? I'm home with my kids 24/7, so why wouldn't I mind a few more?

"She doesn't work," you say, justifying why your kids are here ALL FUCKING DAY!

I have 2 children. That's all I wanted. Right now I have 8 children ranging in ages 5 - 15 in my back yard. I'm trying to clean the house, but every time I get something done one of the little heathens comes in here for a drink/snack/bathroom, or just to ask me (ONE MORE FUCKING TIME) if they can play the Wii?????

NO!!!!!!!!!!!! Go home!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Damn. Why do you let them in?

And not to be the bitch of the block you tolerate it...

I hate parents like this. The ones that assume because their kids are friends with your kids you run a free daycare, provide snacks for the whole block, and don't have a water bill to pay every time the toilet flushes. I'm sorry these people take advantage of you like this.

I am not interested in ever becoming that mom. I'm watching two kids for half days for a friend of mine for three weeks (I just started week three). She's paying me though. I would not be able to do this for free. Time to send bills home with the kids -- $1 per drink, $2 per snack, in addition to $8/hour that they're within your eye sight. Maybe that would help all parties involved -- you'd get extra cash, or at least make it clear to them that you aren't a free babysitting service.

Mom2B...

You are describing my house during the summer.  I have gotten to the point now where I have ZERO problem with sweetly (but firmly) saying things like: "Okay guys, you'll need to find someplace else to play. Miss Beth has some things she has to get done" or "It's time for company to go home now; my boys have to eat lunch and do their chores" or EVEN... "I wish I could offer you a snack, too, but Miss Beth is broke and doesn't have many groceries right now."

ha!! i totally agree with the bills thing!!! at our house we have friend day once a week. that is the only day other kids are allowed over - and they can each have only one kid at a time. (that still makes for 8 kids in my house though....)

I feel your pain!  I am not shy anymore about being mean and telling them to go home.  I am the only SAHM on the block, so I had to do it!
