If you can afford it, I would suggest getting movers to help. My hubby and I have moved 5 times in the 5 years we've been married (we're nomads, lol) and packing up a truck is a real pain in the butt!! If we ever have to move again, I'm going to pack up all the boxes, but have the movers pack up a truck and unpack the truck.

We moved from Arkansas, where I met Hubby and where he's from, to Florida, where I'm from, about 4 yrs. ago and it was kinda chaotic. We're not letting that stop us though. As soon as we can, we plan on getting the hell outta this state!! Great place to vacation, don't wanna live here anymore!!

I just moved from MD to FL. It's like two different planets. :-)

 I would say first, research as much as possible on your new place : neighborhoods, schools, stores, gyms even....I found all the necessary info on the net, then I called the places I needed to call (schools, doctors) to make appointments and also to ask them in advance what paperwork I would need. That way I gathered all the info I needed BEFORE. Also as I moved in the summer I researched any activities that were available for kids (camps, day activities) and museums etc. Hope that helps!

I JUST moved out of state in January!  This was our first big move, from Indiana to Tennessee.  We had to live with my in-laws for awhile, which wasn't the greatest, but it wsan't all that bad either.  We just packed up in the biggest UHaul we could get and moved on out.  WE left all of our furniture behind thinking that we would just get all new.  that is the biggest don't I would say!  We completely forgot about all the moving expenses, deposits and other little stuff that comes up and it's not that easy to just buy brand new furniture- we were lucky and got a bedroom set, but right now we don't have a couch or anything in our living room! LOL  We are hopefully getting one this coming weekend- but that was our biggest mistake.  Also I would make sure you google the area you are moving to so you know what is around and the new laws are and just learn as much as you can about your area- that helped us out a lot!  When you start looking for a moving truck call Penske and UHaul and if you are lucky like we were they will fight for your business and keep lowering the prices of the trucks.  But all in all I would go with U Haul they were the best ones we have ever used.  Out truck originally was going to cost us $1000 for JUST the truck alone but after calling both trucking companies several times with the other ones deals we got it for $575!!  That was almost half the price!  Good luck in your move!!
