So today I had to put my doggie down. His name is Kobe.. shih tzu.. He was almost 4 years old.  The feistiest little dog I've ever known and loved. He was as protective as can be. He was also very vocal. Family and friends always got a kick of his 'almost' words.Anyone that has animals and loves them  know that attachment and bond that develops between the mommy and her 4 legged baby. Elijah took it ok but I could tel that he was  upset.. and I totally understand that.  A week ago he ruptured a disc in his back causeing him to be paralyzed from mid back down. He was improving so much. Have ideo of him rolling around playing and  play-growling. Never wouldda thought the next morning it would take a drastic turn for the worst. Shih tzu's  are notorious for licking and chewing themselves.. as well as back problems as they get older. By him not being able to feel what he was doing (very much if at all) he chewed himself up  and it was a horrifying mess. The only explanation that I can give is that the nerves were beginning to function properly again..little by little and the tingling  sensation triggered his ocd behavior of licking and chewing. I was glad that my son didnt have to see it. So we took him to the vet and there was nothing that they could do.The decision to put him down was very hard.. I know he's up there running around snatching food off of the unexpecting plates of  the angels (do angels even have plates,or eat?). He was the sweetest, most playful dog and will be missed very much. R.I.P  Koby Bear

MaryJ...

I am sorry to hear of your loss, it is a hard decision to make, but sometimes we have to do what we have to do.
