Hardwood floors i pristine conditions under carpet in the living room, hallway, & 2 of the bedrooms. In one bedroom part of the floor was removed for work years ago and not replaced. No biggie - we'll match the wood as well as we can. Until then, DD says she wants carpet.
The kitchen has laminate & the dining room has the most gawd awful linolem (late 1960s pattern). We're thinking of putting tile in both rooms.
Stripped paint off of one of the kitchen cabinet doors - gorgeous birch in perfect condition! We won't need new ones! Yeah! We're still deciding on what type of counter tops, but are thinking of going with a solid laminate we saw last week if we can't find the granite we like at a good price.
And the biggie - mom is buying us the appliances we choose as a housewarming gift. Why? Because we saved her the expense and hassle of a wedding. Don't care why, just gonna love the stuff.
Now I'm going to bed. Tomorrow I work, pack, strip more paint, & remove the brown & cream striped wallpaper in the kitchen. Ugh! And that's on top of making the calls & address change notifications.
I'll share some pics soon. I need to remember to take the camera with us, lol.

Congrats on the house! I know you'll love it once all the modifications are done! <even more than you love it now!>
I LOVE working on an old house! There was this place my hubby and I thought we were gonna buy.... and it was a disaster!! We had started by peeling down the horrendous 80's wallpaper in the dining room, tore up ALL the nasty 70's carpeting, scraped down all the popcorn ceilings, and already had the first coat of fresh paint up in most of the rooms when we found out it wasn't going to happen...
But it was a fun experience anyway, I learned so much about do-it-yourself remodeling... and somehow, all the heavy labor made me feel so ALIVE!
Sherrie-I see you need counter tops....would you like a Hook-up??? let me know, the hubbs works for a cabinet company and they have them. We would have to work out where to ship them (we maily work with other businesses) but whatever. Let me know if you would like to take a look at what we have. Can't remember the website but can get it!!!!!!!!

You lucked out on the hardwood floors.. Thanks to dear ole mom for the appliances. That is a wonderful gift. Sounds like you have some work ahead of you, but it will be nice to have "your touches" in the house to make it the way you want it. Oh, and regarding the linolem..Some stores won't remove it, due to asbesto's used in linolem back in those days. When we had our floors done.. they went over top of the linolem, and you wouldn't ever know it... And our house was built 14 years ago...
Looking forward to photos.
