Ella would not nurse. Simply refused. I was heartbroken & felt like a failure. I got over it eventually. I pumped 3 1/2 months & then swithed to formula for my sanity. I had flat nipples I was told.
Now I have Matthew. He is 10 days old. I wore breast shells to bring my nipples out which helped. Matthew was having much difficulty latching at first. The pain was excrutiating. As time has gone on, it's gotten a little better. I have pumped a few times & given him a bottle b/c of nipple soreness. Here are our challenges though. . .
He won't open his mouth. He gets lazy & wants to sit & lick it. When he does this, I can get him to latch eventually, but it can take a while, and it gets very frustrating especially at 2AM. Once he latches, we're good to go though.
When I nurse him on one side, the other side gets excited & sprays enough milk to make a 4 oz bottle run over without me even messing with it. As you can imagine, if I don't have a bottle handy to catch it, my shirt gets completely soaked. Will I ever be able to leave the house? When I see moms nursing in public, they don't have a bottle held up to catch milk from the unattended to breast, and their shirts don't look like someone just dumped water on them. Does this get easier?
Any tips on getting him to open wide & latch on quiker??
Thanks for any advice!!!!

I nursed for a year and we had our share of problems. Of course none of the same ones so not much help. But I would think just stick with it and yes it should get easier. Did you try one of the breastfeeding groups on here? I am a member of one of them and posted questions ALL the time!! Good luck, sorry I have nothing to offer you.
