Let's get serious! This is the truth, ANY HABIT YOU MAKE AS PARENTS, YOU MUST BREAK AS PARENTS!!!
I like to read and answer these questions here on cafemom and I see a pattern of these questions. So many of them are something like, my baby sleeps in my bed how do i get them out, my child is 3 how do i get rid of the binky, my baby has a bottle in bed how do i get rid of it. If parents didn't put their babies in their beds to begin with, you wouldn't ever have a problem with it. If you didn't let your baby use a pacifier past the point of a baby's soothing device, then you wouldn't have to take it away when they're toodlers about to start school and etc.
Just know parents, if you start it, you have to finish it.
As far as children going to bed with bottles and sippy cups, OMG, I think thats horrible. It causes baby bottle tooth decay and a really soggy diaper in the morning. I've never, and never will put a child to bed with something to drink. If your child needs a bottle before, then give the child a bottle, when they're finished, change diaper and put them to bed. Again, if you always do it, then its not a problem down the road.
The key to being a good parent is to be consistant. With anything, your schedules, routines, discpline.... If you start something and thats the way you want it, then if you're consistant with your child, then they'll get the hint that it's not going to happen any other way!
If you say NO to something now then 10 mins later when they're wanting whatever it is again, its NO then too. Don't give in. It's hard work but it pays off.
Parenting isn't easy, its like having 3 fulltime jobs maybe even worse but in the end you'll be proud of the child you've molded them into. We have to give our children what's best and not always what they want.
