it's all about the sentimental value

Yesterday I received a phone call from our wedding photographer. He left a VM to call him back it was extremely important. I immediately can tell there was something wrong so I called him as soon as I was done listening to the VM. To make a long story short he explained that he had a major problem with his computer or whatever it is that he backs up his pic's to and it had crash and lost alot of important data, including wedding pics he had shot not only of our wedding but also of five other couples !!
I honestly didn't know what to say. He apologized like a million times and told me how awful he feels and that he's been stressing cause obviously this is bad for his business and his clients. I feel really bad for the guy because he really is a nice person BUT our wedding was over a year ago!! and I have been asking him for our wedding pics since before Sofia was born !! I take part of the blame because I did procrastinate to pick the pictures I wanted, but I was pregnant and I didn't have the energy to come home from being on my feet for 8hrs at work and then come look through 700 plus pics and choose the ones I wanted. I ended up asking him to just put them on a CD for me and to give me copyright rights so that I can print them at a letter time, he agreed. That was way back in late November !! There's a crap load of things I could say to him obviously but it doesn't change the situation. I would just get myself really worked up and accomplish nothing...
He did say he sent out his equipment to one of the best data recovery centers to see if anything can be saved. There is still a small chance and a probability that we can get some or hopefully all pics. I am trying to stay positive but I just don't have a good feeling about it. I am so upset about it. He stated he will give us a full refund if all our pictures were not recovered since that's the least he could do. I didn't get a vibe from him like he was just trying to fix it with money he really was upset and very disappointed, I can tell he felt awful about the whole situation.
I am so sad and angry that I might not have any of my wedding pic's. Brian and I chose to have a photographer over a videographer. We paid for the whole wedding ourselves and we just couldn't afford both. These pictures is all we have or had... I know their just pictures but they have the biggest sentimental value anyone can imagine.
Some friends did take their own pics and I know I can get some from them but it's just not the same.

I am so sorry :( I am a picture fanatic and know how important those memories are. I would be heart broken , and cant even imagine how you feel. I hope that at the very least, some of them are able to be saved! If you have any from the wedding that your friends or family took, I would be more than happy to edit some of them and make them special for you. Just let me know!
