I live in an area pretty close to Philadelphia.  Each night the news brings of tales of this one killed that one and this child was killed by stray bullets from a gang fight etc. I think it's pretty sad that these stories don't shock and horrify us anymore - but they certainly leave us dismayed about the lack of humanity, decency and brotherly love that city is supposedly famous for.

Lest people think I should be predjudiced against that city here are some HEADLINES from Yahoo news - all in the same blurb in the past hour.....

Man accused of killing, dismembering girlfriend (AP)

Canada bus passenger stabs, decapitates seat mate (AP)

9 charged in death of disabled Philly teen (AP)

ยป More News I mean really WHO in their right mind would want MORE news after THAT??

It really makes me contemplate where in the world society's moral compass has gone.

I'm sure there used to be one, how else could human kind have made it this far without one?

Today is one of those days that makes me want to hole up in my house and not leave.....could it work? Possibly, with lots of planning and thought.  Would I want it to work? No.  I would miss interacting with my friends and family, taking the kids to the park, watching their amazement as birds soar high into the sky, looking for treasures on the beach at dusk.

There has to be something WE can do - maybe just choosing to love others would help.  One person at a time. If I love you and you love the next person and so on..... we can probably get enough love to overcome the evil no?  A very WISE friend of mine always tells us ...LOVE is the answer.  If we love - we care- if we care we take actions to protect - when we take action - we win!

Go forth and LOVE!

Deann...

It is terribly sad. When we lived in Florida, we didn't get 'local' news on tv, we got the Jacksonville news. The crime there was/is horrendous! Savannah can be bad, too. The discussions I have with Mary make me sad sometimes, too, especially when she tells me she wishes she could ride her bike all over like I did when I was a kid.

celti...

You are quite right my dear.  There does not seem to be a moral compass any longer.  People are no longer held accountable for their actions and more often than not those actions are becoming increasingly violent.  Those who do well are not praised in the news and media as they once were.  Death and dismemberment get the ratings not someone who has raised money for a worthwhile cause.  What I don't understand is why we as a general society continue to let it happen.  So hun, I am with you, I love you bunches and appreciated the friendship we have.  We have to start somewhere.
