Is there really a difference between Christians and Atheists?

Oh I know that the belief thing is a huge difference and all, I'm wondering if there is anything else. Seriously.

Take a look at a Christian, Atheist and Pagan family. All three families are interested in pretty much the same things. From raising their children knowing right from wrong, to loving their spouses. The difference is that the Christian goes to church, the Atheist doesn't  and the Pagan, well they celebrate the way they do (and I'm not sure how they do so please don't be offended).

Granted there are extremists in ALL walks of life that give the rest of us a bad name, there is no getting away from that. There are also a lot of really great people that believe the same way as I do other than the God issue. Does that make me right and them wrong? Or does it make them right and me wrong? Nope, it just means we have differing views and beliefs.

What it boils down to for me is simply this: When we die a true Christian is promised an eternity in paradise, and Atheist is just gone and I'm not sure about a Pagan. So, if the Christian is right they get a huge reward when the others don't, and if the Christian is wrong...well then we didn't hurt anyone by believing (ok so we're not supposed to hurt anyone).

For me personally, I don't think non-believers are going straight to Heck just because they don't believe. They might not get into Heaven but I do believe that all people that are kind and loving do have a nice place to spend eternity. Does that make sense?

Something I've been mulling over in my mind the past few days.

Nope, the ONLY difference between Atheist, Christian, Pagan, etc is merely their beliefs in a god(s).  The beliefs in an afterlife can even vary between and within beliefs.  Frankly, we are all human, we all bleed red, and we're all going to die one day(we're mortal). If we focused on what made us similar instead of what makes us different there'd be more peace!

Good post! I get along with just about everyone...except people that shove their beliefs in my face, people that believe that everyone should live like they live, and people that think my rights as a human/mother/woman should be taken away because of what they believe.

LIVE & LET LIVE!

My personal belief is that the same thing happens to us whether we are Christian, Pagan, Atheist, Hindu, or Muslim.

I believe that each individual soul is a part of God; you can take a glass of water out of the ocean and the ocean is not diminished, and the water itself remains unchanged, but loses some of the properties of the ocean, such as tides and waves.   When we die, the soul goes back to the ocean that is the body of energy that we call God.

We all have souls, and they are all a part of God.  That's why if I hurt you, I'm hurtting myself at the same time.  We are all connected to each other by our souls.

Great post!

JDmom...

Nice to see someone being kind to ALL. I am an atheist and unless religion or such is brought up you wouldn't know it. Because, you are right. When we forget religion we are all the same.
