Well here is a little background on McKayla Elizabeth Bloom. She was born on May 31st 2007 at 7:21am in Cherokee IA. She was 6lbs 6ozs 18inches long. She was born via C-section. When she was only about an hour old she was life flighted to Childrens Hospital in Omaha. Her father and grandmother drove down when she left. I was still out of it so it didnt really hit me til sometime later. I was in the hospital for 5 days with no baby that sucked big time. Well I was the only one that could give the drs permission to treat her because we didnt have paternity papers done yet. So they were calling me all the time for permission to do surgery for her trach and permission to give her blood and blood products. Well they finally told us that she has a vasular tumor on her face and neck. When i first saw her down there she had 2 IVs in her head one in her leg and one in each hand. I cried the first time i saw her. She was so small and fragile. We had no clue that she had this on her face. Nothing on the ultrasound nothing at all. She was in the NICU for 7 months finally getting out in January of this year. She is not with me or her father we have split up because of stress from my other kids and McKayla. She is in a medical foster home with great people taking care of her. I just seen her last month for one of her drs appt. She is so chubby. They are not sure how long she will have a trach and feeding tube but at least she is with people that know how and can take care of her. I have so much going on here that i know i would not be able to take care of her the way she needs and there are no drs that will take her case on up here. Well i will go for now hope everyone has a great day im glad i got that out in the open have any question at all let me know love to all Jessica and Family.
Its just a foster home. The mom and dad are in the medical field. The mom is a nurse and the dad i believe is an emt. She does not get moved around either she is just with them.
She is doing great where she is and i am so glad that she is there and doing so well thank you for asking
why cant the doctors remove the tumor? she seems like a wonderful little girl. if the doctors can not remove the tumor out there can she be brought to a bigger city, like NYC?
It is attached to a big vessel in her neck and it would not be safe to remove it. I have asked the same thing. They are hoping that she grows out of it that it will just go back into neck or something like that as she grows. They were going to send her to Boston once but they said that they would not do anything to her when she was that young.
Well my heart and prayers go to you and her. I am glad to see you are both doing well. YOu have the best attutide when it comes to her and you can see you love her dearly and glad you do for you know what is the best for her... In thoughts and a pray to your families.
God must have something REALLY important planned to give her such tests so early on. I'm thankful that there is such a place that can properly see to her needs, I always wonder what would happen to kids who needed special care that the parents just weren't up to handling, I never knew such wonderful places existed!
