Okay, so I'm thinking about quitting my job.

I bring home around $100 per week and spend that much at least in gas and incidentals when I'm out and about. To make up for the lost income I could...

1. Limit trips to town to 4 per week....down from 12.
2. No more "coffee" or "lunch" out.
3. Less trips means less temptation to spend $$ on crap.

Other benefits include:
1.  More time at home means less overwhelming laundry, cleaner house, miscellaneous junk sorted and disposed of.
2. Finally time to finish staining exterior and interior of house.
3. More time for eldest daughter's home school experience.
4. No more gym fees = using the treadmill and weight set in the basement.
5. Less stress from unhealthy work atmosphere (when will I lose my job mentality is RAMPANT among employees for inside reasons)

Downside:
1. Less adult interaction.
2. Writing/publishing comes to a stand-still.
3. Loss of income, albeit a small drop in the bucket.
4. Fear of becoming complacent
5. What will we do if we need extra money?

Honestly, I'm scared to death. It's been a long time since I've jumped in waters this deep. With 4 girls, working full time until they're all able to take care of themselves after school for a few hours is not an option. We can't affort to pay someone to look after them.

What if I quit and then we really need the $$? Who's going to hire me when I'm credits shy of a bachelors and 2 years out of the mainstream workforce with only steady part-time work filling in the gap?

What if I can't find something that fits our schedule? What then? Where is the nearest plasma clinic?

On the other hand, my mom did it. She stayed home when we were young, kept the house, and did odd jobs for a few weeks at a time when we needed extra cash. This was 20-30 years ago, though.

Crap. I don't know what to do.

HELP!

I think if you look at the big picture you'll be fine. Your bring home 100/ wk, so thats 400/ month. You say you spend that much at least in gas and incidentals. So really you'll be fine, money wise and everything. Scrimp, cut back here and there....you'll be ok. If you have the opportunity to be home with your girls then go for it. IF things change and you need to go back to work don't sell yourself short. You can find a job. (Honey if I can get my felons jobs you can get a job,ok?)

I think you'll be fine. Seize this opportunity and enjoy it!

HONEY ..... I'M HOME .........

I love the fact that both boys are going to be going to school full time (Kindergarten is now all day every day) but I still want to be home with them when they are home sooooo trying to find a job to fit the "school schedule" has been a bit futile for me ..... I thought about starting a daycare in our house, but that would last 2.4 hours before I went postal :)   Could you have a home office and do freelance work ?? I know you can have the best of both worlds !!

Take Care ....

I decided to leave my job last July. The only problem I really have is the lack of adult interaction. I must admit, it can get very lonely. Otherwise, I love the time I can spend with my girls.
