I know, I'm behind on this writing thing! It's been a busy few weeks, and another week of super-busy coming up. So while I have a few minutes today, I thought I'd go ahead and clue y'all in.
You know we went to Mom's for a week in July. It took me another week after returning to get the laundry and house back in order, and I still feel like I'm playing catch-up with everything! I have gotten myself organized enough, though, that I've been able to sew a few things here and there. I finally finished JT's Star Wars blanket, which is his birthday present. He'll be 10 on Saturday!! I'm having the grandparents over around 2, and any aunts or uncles who are able to make it. Going to grill chicken with vegetables for lunch, then we'll have the birthday stuff - cake, ice cream, and presents! I'll have pictures from that, but probably won't be able to post them until next weekend.
School starts on Wednesday! My baby is going into Kindergarten!! She and I went up for orientation last night - and I think she took it much better than I did. I really almost started crying while I showed her where her brother's room is and where to meet him after school. They'll be walking again this year, and until I get a job, I'll be walking both ways with them every day that I can. For the first week or so, I told them both that he is to walk her to her room, then come back to his own. Just until she can get there on her own, since it si on the other side of the building (but same floor). I am so very glad, though, that Ira is working nights next week... he'll be here to console me when we get back from dropping them off on the first day! I'm also glad that Clare's teacher knows JT, since last year she was a reading helper - and JT got to hang with her a few days a week. Everyone was happy that they all knew each other already! All summer, I've been nervous that Clare wouldn't like school at all, and she'd been telling us that she wasn't going to go to school. Then we bought her a backpack, lunchbox, and some clothes for school - now she's finally excited. She already has a friend in her class too, another girl whose favorite color is also pink, and has the same name as one of my nieces! Their names are next to each other on the room door, and Clare sought her out. They're best buds already! (See why I was ready to cry last night?!?)
We've been waking the kids earlier by the week, and this week they've been waking around 7:30. For school days they'll have to be up by 7, then fed, dressed, and ready to go by 7:30. I'm starting the 7 a.m. wake-up on Monday! Which means, I go back to waking around 6 to get myself awake and start cooking breakfast. The first three days I'm going to make oatmeal with apples, then I'll just wing it for the next week. We do keep instant oatmeal around, and cereal, but I don't know which kid will be having lunch when, so real oatmeal is the way to go until we find out about lunches! Oh, and I'll have "first day" pictures for both kids. I'll just upload all of them with birthday pictures, next weekend. I have to get all my crying out first. :-)
Okay, next subject. Last weekend (3 & 4) I went to my cousin's house for a girl's weekend! I do have a few pictures, but honestly I got myself so messy that I left the camera inside most of the time. We tie-dyed some tee shirts... well, we dyed about 100 shirts total, but 11 came home with me! The rest were for her family. I got to her house on Saturday around 5:30 (she lives up north about 2 hours, but not across the river!) and we immediately made up a pitcher of Pina Coladas! My kids were with my ILs, she had 2/3 of her kids there. The others were with their other parents, and my cousin Dave is on a two-week stint with the National Guard. (Not the yearly one, this is a different one. He should be home tomorrow.) Anyway, Marisa's sister showed up that evening too, then my mom came by. Mom, the sister (don't know if she wants to be mentioned by name), and I all spent the night, but before bed we pulled our chairs out into the road to look at the stars. They live way out in the country, and you can see tons more stars there than you could here at my house, in the city! It was neat though, sitting in the road (aka their driveway) and watching the sky, listening to the frogs and crickets and other critters. Haven't done that in the longest time! Sunday Marisa had a makeup party (MK, so as not to be flagged as an ad to go in the marketplace!). That also happened to be the day her A/C coil froze up, so we pulled out the hair dryers and cleaned the filter. It was fine after that! The last fun thing, was Marisa's friend Amy coming up. She does henna tattoos - and I have one now! I do have a picture (or two?) but I've not dumped the camera yet. I saw it as a "practice" tattoo, so now I'm more confident about where I want my final tattoo - the weight loss reward one! I hadn't seen Amy in a few years, and it was great to visit with her too. Her little boy is a DOLL, too! So after hanging out for a while with the ladies, I decided to head back home. I got back around 10:45 that night, then went and picked the kids up Monday evening.
I think it was Tuesday morning that I weighed myself - scale said 198 again. Once the kids are in school, I'll be able to work and run around more, plus walking around the neighbourhood and back and forth to school daily. The numbers should start a downward trend again. And I hear that Fall is a great time for a tattoo! :-)
Now the battery is low! I've been reading since about 7:30 this morning, and I need to get started on today's work anyway. Not a lot to do, but I have some sewing I want to finish and it's easier to focus on that if everything else is done before I start! I'll have another update as soon as I can - first day of school is Wednesday! Someone tell me I'll be okay....

*deep breath* OK, gonna save the rest for Wednesday.
Have a great weekend!
Namaste,
Julia
