Hi folks, i know i can depend on you to give us your support.
This year in my town we celebrated the centenery of our sea fed out door swimming baths, i and my siblings spent many enjoyable days here as children.
I raised my first 2 children (now 22 and 17) while the baths were starting to get a bit grubby, and i just wouldnt let them use it, now they are no longer in use and in danger of being ripped down by the local council. Warenpoint has a population of approx 7000 and everyone i speak to wants the baths to stay and be refurbished.......the thought of 'our baths' being ripped down is actually a sad thought for the people of our rown and surrounding areas.
We have organised an on-line petition in support of 'our' baths, I would appreciate if you would take 2 minutes to click the link and hit button to help us 'save our baths
http://www.gopetition.com/petitions/save-warrenpoint-baths.html
Thankyou for your support folks, and maybe you could forward the link to your own many friends and help our cause even further.

First, I love the fact that you're from Ireland!
My dad lives on a freshwater lake in the Pocono Mts. in Pennsylvania. This was a weekend home for me for over 20 years. Sailing, swimming, rowboating, canoeing, fishing...wonderful memories. Down the road was "Sagamore". It was a resort back in the 1950's for singles and couples. My dad and mom used to go there every summer. That's how they acquired the lake house. There was all sorts of activities there, but the main attraction was the "Showboat". It sat behind the beach and had a pool hall, snack bar, and upstairs was the dance hall and balcony. This was a hot spot in the 50's and 60's. Then it became "Sagamore Estates" where people now could buy lots and build homes. A lot of the small cabins were ripped down and over the years the tennis courts disappeared or just became overgrown. The fire tower is still there. I'm very fond of the place and it makes me sick to even think that someday someone else may own my father's home that was my second home for years. But that's another journal entry...it's on my profile if you wish to read it.
About 5-10 years ago, I don't quite remember, the Showboat was burned down, by control fire. Broke my heart! The beach is still there and I guess area residents still use it, but it's just not the way it used to be.
I can relate to your quest! The memories you've had and want to share with your children. You also want them to experience it also. It's going to take A LOT to get your beloved Warrenpoint back in shape. Don't give up. Have you thought about fund raisers? It may or maynot bring in a ton of $ (or pounds in your respect), but it'll get the word out. Try finding a corporate sponsor that feels your need.
But the one thing I want prepare you for is this: It may be time for you to say good bye. There is only so much that can be done. I can't tell you how many times we tried to save "Sagamore". Governmental red tape, lack of funds and interest on some people's parts (SUCH AS THE RESIDENCE-HELLO?).
I truly hope you can bring Warrenpoint back. It looked like such a wonderful place to spend a vacation or a day. I can see where you want to save it!
Good luck in your fight!
