A 15 month old grandson of a friend of the families was found in his room a couple days ago hanging from the chord on the blinds. Hes in the hospital right now with no brain activity.

Ya'll need to make sure the pull chords are extra short, and rig something up to hang the chord completely out of reach when the blinds are drawn.

my hubby is doing it right now to all of the windows.

This little boy needs all the prayers he can get.
PLEASE mark this post as popular so we can spread the word.

EDIT:  And, never put a crib against a window

I should have also added that this incident happened at the babysitter's home.  Make sure that whoever is watching your wee ones is takin procautions, as well.

EDIT:   The baby didn't make it.  God bless him and his family.

Very good post.  I have seen so many posts like this before I had dd, that I acutally took every blind we had in house down...except for the dining room and I keep that one up until dd is in bed and then put the cord in a pitcher hanging on the wall(when it's up or down).  There are some free blind safety kits offered online and there is a website dedicated to cord deaths.  I am so sorry to hear about your friend's son.

Thanks! I'll have to see if I can find those kits somewhere.  I've secured the hanging chords really well, but the blinds themselves are really dangerous.  We can't take them down... it's in the apartment lease.  =(

Bump doesn't work on journals. Only voting popular does.

I'm so sorry to hear of your friend's grandson. Love to his family.

I want to add to never put a crib in front of a window! A little boy in the city I live in died because the mom put the crib in front of a window that had blinds. The boy choked to death and it was hours before anyone knew.

Go to this website and you can get FREE stuff to help make your blinds child proof.

My daughter's crib is by a window, but I have curtains instead of blinds, so while she moves those around, she can't strangle herself with it. It's a much better solution to blinds.
