The overview of our trip to LA this Sat and Sun:
The road to LA from Vegas sucks. Bumpy, needs repaved. Trevor and I decided there should be a bullet train btw LA and Vegas. it would always be packed, and there wouldnt be a three hour or more delay due to a car crash and there's no other road to get there. Thankfully we didnt deal with that. No traffic til we hit LA.
Stayed in the Doubletree Hotel in Commerce, CA which is an eastern suburb of LA. NOt the nicest place i've stayed, but surprisingly nice for only $90 a night per room. I just enjoyed sleeping in a king size bed since ours is a queen! Comfy bed, good restaurant, granite countertop in bathroom, Neutrogena shampoo/face wash, etc in bathroom. Cool.
Learned that portable DVD players dont work well with 14 month old babies who like to push the buttons on it the whole time. Also learned that either my son is big enough now or my breasts are saggy enough now that i can nurse him without taking him out of his rear facing car seat and without me unbuckling my seatbelt, if i sit next to him. Disturbing? Yes. It disturbs me too. Oh well. Ya do what ya gotta do.
Once we unpacked our stuff in Commerce at the hotel, and ready to go into town for the Eddie Izzard show, it was close to 6 pm. We left Asher with mom...I was worried he would not do well for her at bedtime. But we brought ALL his stuff from home so i tried not to worry.
When we got onto Hollywood Blvd, here's what i noticed:
Lots of cool shops just east of the Kodak Theatre. Tattoo parlors, vintage clothing stores, etc. Wish we had more time so we could check them out. Reminded me of the Montrose area of Houston.
And, this may seem really wierd, but it always amazes me how i can see a difference in the people no matter what city i go to. I've spent significant time in London, Chicago, Houston, Indianapolis, St Louis, and Las Vegas. They're all big cities with people living in them from all over the world, but somehow you can still tell each place has its own feel. LA was no different. I figured, ya seen one big city you've seen 'em all, but yet the people here seemed "different". i cant put my finger on it. Not individuals but the crowds as a whole. Again, dont ask me to explain because i cant. Just a vibe i got. I felt very "outsiderish"....perhaps the way a small town person might feel going into a big city for teh first time. Only i've lived in several big cities. So i cant explain it. There were also on hollywood blvd a lot of wierd looking street performesr and impersonators. You'd think since i live in Vegas i'd be used to this but i guess the impersonators in Vegas have thier own shows, LOL, and arent on the street. So i dont see them much.
ANyway, we got a great parking spot RIGHT by the Kodak. We walked to Grauman's Chinese Theatre, and along the way looked at all the stars on the walk of fame. Pretty cool. I found myself reading them all aloud as we walked over them, then suddenly realized how touristy that seemed and that i was embarrassing my husband, so i stopped. LOL. For some reason, maybe cuz we live in Vegas and the tourists here drive us crazy, but he HATES being seen as a "tourist"...even if he IS one. LOL.
OUtside the Chinese Theatre was crazy. Hand and foot prints and signatures from every single famous actor/actress you could imagine. Clark Gable, Judy Garland, Will Smith, Greta Garbo, Drew Barrymore (i saw on TV when she was awarded her star and also put her handprints in the cement outside the Theatre...) it was crazy. Also more street performers...there was someone dressed up as marilyn monroe in her white dress standing over a fan/grate...ya know the classic scene...someone else dressed up as Charlie Chaplin. Began kicking myself that i left my camera in the car sinc ei knew i couldnt bring it in the theatre. Got a few photos with Trevor's camera...I'll add them in to this later...
When we went into the Kodak Theatre, i was surprised by how beautiful it was, and yet not nearly as big as it seems when they show the Academy Awards on TV. We were on the 2nd balcony, front row (so we could look over the edge of the balcony), front and center....PERFECT seats IMO because we could still see his face, etc but were up high enough and with no one in front of us there were no distractions. Except for the gross couple off in box seating on the other side of the theatre. Before the lights dimmed i could see them walk into their box area with another couple...there were 4 seats per box...and one couple immediately started making out hard core. So gross. Everyone in the theatre could see them easily. I secretly hoped they'd get so into it they'd fall over the balcony. Then i realized that was mean and they'd probably die so i dismissed the thought, LOL. But half way through the show i looked over and they were still all hot and heavy. Super gross. Why pay that much for a ticket to make out? you can do that at home for free.
The show was hilarious, but i left semi jaded. Eddie Izzard is a british comedian, an atheist one. i knew this, and still thought he was funny. Up to this point usually in his comedy he doesnt make fun of people for believing in God, but makes fun of the crappy things done throughout history in the name of religion. Which i agree with and i find to be hilarious. But this time he seemd to make fun of people FOR beliving in God, which tends to hit a nerve. And make me sad. :-( I dont expect him to believe the way i do, and yes, its comedy. But part of the reason i like him is because his comedy is so GOOFY, and not the "lets make fun of everyone and be hurtful and angry" kind of comedy that is so common to American comedy and that is so prevalent on comedy central. This time it seemed more "american-angry" sort of comedy. and yet, it wasnt that i didnt laugh my butt off. i did. I just liked Dressed to Kill and Definite Article better. Either way it was worth the money for the experience.
On the way home we walked around outside. There was some car show going on on HOllywood Blvd with cars more expensive than my mom's house. Ridiculous. Trevor was drooling. I was rolling my eyes. On the way home we grabbed McD's and went back to the hotel. I put my ear up to my mom's room and heard no crying baby which is a great sign. NO BABY FOR THE NIGHT! WOO HOO!
we ate McD's, watched some TV, and then, well...enjoyed the King size bed and room with no baby in it, if you catch my drift. It was a good night.
At 4 am Asher woke wanting to nurse so mom brought him down to my room and he came to bed with us. At 7 am Asher woke up and we went to visit mom's room. Mom said he went down without a fuss at 8 pm and slept all night...Which made me VERYhappy to hear. After we checked out, we went to the Aquarium of the Pacific in Long Beach.
The weather was BEEEAUTIFUL!!! lovely breeze, even slightly cool. we have a breeze in Vegas, but its a hot breeze. ugh. Ashe got to touch a sting ray (i've dissected a shark, and expected it to feel the same way...like sand paper...instead it was quite slimy...didnt expect that...but totally cool...)
After the aquarium we went home, nothing too exciting to share on that end, but here are some pics of our trip the aquarium:

Comments:
At least the rest of the trip was pleasing. (get my drift, lol) Look at Asher's little feet! tippy toes to see the tank, how cute.
how fun! when i went to broadway, i saw "johnny depp!" ^_^ lol... unfortunately i didn't get any good pics from hollywood, although i have a few from that museum, too. glad the trip was fun overall! (btw, i would've been drooling at the car show too!)
