Did you know that a non emergency c-section (elective) has a 2.84 almost three times greater risk for death than a vaginal birth or an emergency C-section?
Comments:
Yeah, I'm not sure I understand. Death for the baby or the mother and what does it make a difference?
Hmmm. I guess my mom, sister and I lucked out, then, since we were both born by elective c-sections, and my mom survived both. In fact, we were both born overseas--one of us in 1968 and the other in 1970. Wow. How did we survive?
My son was born by c-section, as were my two nephews and one niece. All of us have survived. Not only that, but my oldest sister whose first child was born by emergency c-section, decided to deliver her second child by VBAC. She said her recovery from the second birth was a lot more difficult than the recovery from the c-section. Interesting. My other sister, who had two c-sections, didn't have a choice--her pelvic bones are not wide enough to accommodate a baby. She tried with her first and had to have a c-section. The second was a scheduled c-section. My son was born by c-section after 27 hours of labor while not dilating past 6cm. Since my water had broken (27 hours earlier) we had no choice. C-sections really are not as bad as you think.
Just because it doesn't happen to someone you know, doesn't mean it won't happen to someone else.
The United states has one of the highest c-section rates, and has the 28th WORST maternal mortality rate.
28 countries around the world have LOWER maternal death than we do.
Oh, and FYI Mom2angelbaby, my son was born via emergency C-section, which is what has inspired me to learn as much as I possibly can about the subject.
