Well, I spent most of today looking for a new vehicle with my mom. I was test driving this decent looking 95 Mercury Villager. We got at a little dealership on Bush River Road. It actually was an okay vehicle. For one, the air worked AND was cold. I drove it home. About half way there, the air stopped being cold. That was red flag number one. By the time I got to my house, there was a strange burning metallic odor. That was red flag number two. Romaine took a look-and a smell- and agreed that we did not want this one. Mom and I turned around to take it back to the little dealership.
About halfway home, a semi makes a wide right into my lane so I slow down. After it rights it self, I try to accelerate.
Except the van doesn't listen. Instead it coasts.
That's right, ladies. It died on a test drive.
I hit the blinkers and pull over and ALMOST make it out of the roadway. Mind you, I am on a busy frontage road. I hop out and run to the back of the van to get the guy's number off the plate. It's not there, only the dealer plate. Me and my mom go through the glove compartment looking for something with the number one it. Mind you, it's hot as Hades. Still no number. I had to call 411 to get the dealership's number. I tell the guy, "Look, this vehicle conked out on us, we are partiallly in the road." He asks where we are. For my fellow Metro mamas, I say, "I am on Fernandina, across from the Hampton dealership." He says he is on his way. About 25 minutes later, we are still sitting. It's still hot. He calls back and asks where we are. I tell him again, "On Fernandina, across from Hampton GMC/Buick/Jaguar." He says, "Oh, I thought you said you were on Greystone at Stivers." Just like a damn man, hearing what he wants to hear LOL. Stivers is the Lincoln/Mercury dealership. He must have assumed that I was going to get it checked out at the Mercury place LOL.
So he drives my mom back to his dealership so that we can get our rental. He also insinuates that this is somehow MY FAULT because I didn't watch the gauges. WTF? No, buddy, this is your fault for trying to sell me a lemon. He's on the phone, talking about selling it at the auction. What a crook!
Anyways, I am glad I didn't buy that one-it didn't last a day. It was beyond a lemon.

OMG! I can't believe some people! Geez! I'm glad you were able to get back safely though. Better luck next time :)
Yall don't have a Carmax there? Go to a bigger town and go to a certified used dealer! Some of the big name dealers have certified used cars with factory warranties! Good luck girl!
That rots. Car dealers are always shady IMO, used or new.
I hope you find something decent soon though:) Hugs.
