Do you know that today, in the United States 3,657 C-Sections take place.
OVER half of them are unnecessary or could have been prevented.

Do you know that The United States ranks 29th in Maternal death rates. Meaning 28 countries have LOWER maternal death rates than The United States.

Do you know that The United States ranks 42nd in INFANT death rates, meaning 41 countries around the world have LOWER infant deaths than we do.

Did you know that in these countries 1/3 of births take place at home?

Do you know that a *NON EMERGENCY* c-section has a 2.83 (almost three times) chance of Maternal death than a normal vaginal birth?

Do you know that 40% of women induced with pitocin WILL have a c-section?

Do you know that the induction drug cydotec is NOT FDA approved for inducing labor?

Do you know that VBAC (Vaginal Birth After Cesarean) and a repeat C-Section hold the SAME 1% chance of uterine rupture?

Do you know that there are women out there that HAVE to have sections in order to have a family? Do you know that scaring someone does not always help them?

I understand your want of presenting facts. However the scare tactic is a horrible way to get your point across.

She's not using scare tactics.  These are all facts.  If statistics scare you... maybe you should re-think your Csection.

No, sweetie, I am NOT scared. I have had 5 sections and am pregnant with my 7th child.

I do not care for people who play the fire and brimstone crap when presenting facts. There is a way to get the point across to women without being so "you and your baby are going to die". I am not in any way disputing any facts. I am all for research and educated choices. If I HAD a choice my choice would definitely been different. HOWEVER, the "RUUUUUUUN they are going to cut you open!!!!" thing is a bit much.  There are some of us who do not nor will we ever have a choice....so why do you feel the need to shove DEATH down our throats??? What about the woman with a complete placenta previa, that has to have a section?? I know that this is posted for the "elective" ones....but still the DEATH is staring that poor girl in the face. Present the facts with out so much drama.

I dont think she is scaring anyone or causing drama. The facts are the facts. There is no way to sugar coat them. accept the truth, and moe on. This is a great post. Thank you for sharing. By the way, she isn't talking about you as a person, she is giving the statistics, and the truth about what is going on in this world. Come to grips with everything isn't always pretty like a rose. Life is what it is.....the truth is always appreciated.

Halfadozen, this is not meant to SCARE people who have legitimate reasons for c-sections.
Those are MEDICALLY necessary c-sections.

Elective c-sections ARE dangerous. Its just a fact.

A c-section rate of 31.1% is over HALF of what is recommended as SAFE by the World Health Org.
It is an epidemic that is killing mothers.
Facts are facts.

-This is funny.. because that is EXACTLY the way most OBs present facts when trying to convince a birthing mom to give in to a C-section!!!

People who feel guilty about their own C-sections will always argue the facts.  It is only when people can be at peace with the fact.. no matter how HARSH those facts are, can they truly be at peace with the decisions theyve made.

But my question to you is why not educate them in a way that is positive?????

Hey, did you know that you had options? Did you know that You can tell your doctor that you do NOT want a section? Did you know that you can eat healthier to strengthen your womb? Did you know.....so forth....

That is my point......WHY so negative?

I take GREAT offense to your comment about ppl feeling guilty for having sections Wendy. Have I disputed any fact?? NO. Have I said that she is wrong? NO. I merely am stating that there are other ways to get the point across regarding this.

My children are healthy and here BECAUSE of the sections.....so I have MUCH peace, thank you.

Wendy, you are right. OB's often scare women into doing what they want them to do. Google the article "Getting the stubborn patient to say yes" it is basically an OB that brags about how she can get her patients to do what she wants by using scare tactics....

As far as people  *TRYING* to argue the facts, its all above in black and white. These are cold hard facts. While *SOME* c-sections are medically necessary, *OVER HALF* are not and could be prevented.

I was snowballed into an induction, which failed, and I had a c-section because my OB didn't feel like waiting around for my labor to progress anymore. And that happens to THOUSANDS of women annually.
