Some houses try to hide the fact

that children shelter there --

Ours boasts of it quite openly,

The signs are everywhere--

For smears are on the windows,

Little smudges on the door

I should apologize, I guess

For toys strewn on the floor

But I sat down with the children

And we played & laughed & read;

And if the doorbell doesn't shine,

Their eyes will shine instead.

For when at times I'm forced to choose

The one job or the other,

I want to be a housewife----

But first I'll be a mother

This is a plaque I have hanging in my home that was my grandmothers, passed to my mother, then to me. Remember this saying ladies when someone says your house isn't as clean as you would like it to be or when you walk around the corner and dishes and laundry are coming out of your ears.

thanks for posting this. I've read it before but had forgotten it. I am going to post it on my Cleaning Group. We Clean and Encourage and part of encouraging is to remind each other not to clean our our kids childhoods away...
