I am going to post my saga, by copying what I posted in one of my groups. PLEASE read all of this, I don't want anyone to go through what I just went through!!!!

Just wanted to send you a quick note as my computer has been badly infected with Adware that appears to have come from Cafemom. I am not computer savy, but that is what my hubby has been able to determine. It is working like a phishing scheme, making me think that I am on Cafemom but loading adds on my computer while I am on Cafemom (my popup blocker is working so I am not seeing the adds, just seeing the addresses scrolling on my bar). Please be careful and I am sorry if I am not on here for awhile - I need to get this cleaned up, it keeps locking up my computer and preventing me from changing sites

I have scanned my computer 3 times with antivirus software and only 1 detected a small risk which I promptly deleted. I did send a message to Cafemom about this. When I logged on tonight, my home page had one of those flashy ads (on the right where it is common for Ads to be) saying that I was a winner. I ignored it and went to "my groups" and I got a message that said  a "live agent" was waiting to speak to me - which of course I ignored. When I sent my message to Cafemom, I had another message popup (despite my pop up blocker) saying I was the 999,999 visitor and I was a winner. I doubt that Cafemom is allowing these types of ads. This is the only site that I am having problems with - in regards to pop-up related issues. I can't access my email know from my computer, so I will have to check it from hubby's to see what Cafemom says. I am starting to have trouble with my keyboard know, where not everything I am typing is registering.

Hopefully I will be recovered soon!

Here is another update. My computer has been infected with 798 viruses/trojans/pups/ and spyware. I have been able to remove a large portion - but not all. I am able to get online, which is more than I was able to earlier today. I am not sure where this came from, but it sounds like others on Cafemom have been having a similar experience. As I type this, I still have something interfering letting me know that "I have 1 Message" (although it isn't a cafemom alert) it shows me an address of a surrounding town from where I live, although I don't know anyone from there. Hopefully this will be cleared up soon. I miss you all!!!!!

I forgot to mention the root of my problem was Antivirus 2008 and Antivirus 2009 - Both of these are terrible spyware - stay clear of them!! How this began was with a popup box, security alert that my system had been turned off (looked very legit). It was in the lower right hand screen where things like that occassionally pop up. It said click here to fix the problem. Then how the virus works is it makes you think you need to upgrade your antivirus software and prompts you to click here. Long story short - don't click here and DON'T buy into their antivirus program. They have the ability to steal your credit card info - which is what they are trying to get you to do! Luckily I knew better than to buy into their program, but didn't realize the Antivirus 2008 and 2009 were bad things!!!

I just removed 94 trojans/adware/whatever. My computer is moving much nicer now, but I am not convinced it is back to normal. I have run 4 programs all day today from 8 this morning, till 11:30 tonight. There was a link one of my hubby's computer friends sent him (he is a manager of Best Buy's Geek Squad) and in the link the tool that worked the best for me was the SUPERAntiSpyware Free Edition. I'll see if I can still get the link from my hubby's computer and post in here.  It will gradually leach on to you enough that you won't be able to do anything on your computer!!! I really think it got to me from Cafemom so please be carefull! I have learned that some of the antivirus programs that come on your computer (Windows Defender and Syntac or Symtac - I can't remember what it is called), any of the programs that rapidly scan your computer, will more than likely miss detecting this!

Mamas...

Just went through that. Not sure of where the problem came from, but still, the adware and spyware were running rampant. And DON'T EVER try to purchase ANY anti virus protector online while having these problems. They will steal your info and then your really screwed. Good luck!
